TL:DW; Design your own tone-shaped TPDF.

BuildATPDF

I explained how DoublePaul was made: taking a TPDF highpass dither, and including additional nearby samples to cause the tone of the noise to be more high-pitched.

Wouldn't be fair if I didn't give you a chance to play with it yourself :)

To use BuildATPDF the way I used it, set the middle sliders to -1 and +1. Then adjust the other sliders until you've tailored the sound of the noise in a way you like. With the other sliders at 0, you have PaulDither. If the surrounding sliders 'oscillate' (going minus, plus, minus, plus) you have more of what DoublePaul is. Tailor the highpass in ways gentle or obvious, or even darken the highpass while leaving its dither functionality intact! It's the combination of a -1 and +1 tap that gives you highpassed TPDF. (This won't work with +1 and +1, because it's the same random noise passing through the plugin: it needs to play a positive node against a negative node)

Or, you can set up the -1 and +1 taps, and then just play with the sliders to see what it sounds like!

Airwindows is supported by my Patreon, and I've produced 44 plugins as free VST including this one. Amazingly, not all of them are dithers :D

Chris, I haven't been able to figure out if you're an absolute genius or an absolute mad man.....or a bit of both. :hihi:

But have you thought of releasing a more conventional plugin to generate attention to your Patreon campaign ? I know you're interested in doing stuff that no one else does but a simple Reverb or Delay or Chorus might show off your coding skills and bring attention to your more esoteric plugins.

For example a simple Room Verb with a quality that makes people go WOW would certainly put you a bit more on the radar and encourage people to check out your other plugins...."If his Reverb is that good then his other plugins must be worth checking out".

Anyway just a thought.......good luck. :)

I consider Pressure4, the compressor, to be that non-esoteric and immediately usable plugin. Shame it doesn't get mentioned more.

I've already done Pressure4, and Pyewacket (another impressive compressor), and I've promised to put out invidual algorithms from my PocketVerbs (which is being held back for now), so there would be some reverbs in the works. One of them is a room verb, but the first one's going to be PocketSpring (a spring-like verb).

Noted, though. Sometimes I'm following through to put out a set of utility or experimenter plugins that I think should exist. For instance, I plan to do a DC Offset plugin. Not to fix it, to cause it. The ultimate DC-fix if handled just right: set the complementary offset and no filtering necessary, but also it'd have obvious uses when using a DAC as a driver for analog synth control voltages. And who knows what else… but I'm not sure one exists, so I should make one :D

Hello!
Since jinxtgr is into analog too,
I thought I would mention a method to fix offset.

Driven tape works perfect, if that could somehow be emulated.
I think there is no hp filter in that method.

Nice to meet you! The indifubulator(?) was very interesting

Chris, would that be like a phase offset plugin that doesn't cause / require delay?

What, the DC offset plugin? No, it's purely a control voltage :) however, it doesn't require delay. And I say control voltage but it'd also be passthrough of the signal.

MUtility has this, other tools might as well. Not to stop you from anything but honestly cv getting quantized by the audio buffer sounds just wrong to me, this needs to be vst3 (or built-in like in Bitwig :D)

But to combat offset in audio is a neat idea, would be great to have a 'learn' function for automatically setting the amount. Guess that´s not doable without additional gui though.

Back on the dithers, i´m not a mastering engineer by any stretch but i´ve found excellent use for these different processes by stuffing them in front of a bitcrusher (adjusted for lower bitrate using BitShiftGain of course).
