Hi. I'm hoping that some people in the forum can recommend a particular USB audio interface for me to use with MuLab or recommend manufacturers known to have good ASIO drivers. Here are my minimum requirements:

1. low noise for price
2. one input with preamp for a single mic or instrument
3. stereo out
4. headphone jack
5. sample rate of 96khz+
6. solid drivers
7. under $200 (USD)

I would value a MIDI in/out as well, but it is not absolutely necessary.

I was thinking of Behringer's U-Phoria (UMC404HD https://www.music-group.com/Ca ... HD/p/P0BK1) which sells for $100. It has more inputs and outputs than I need, but otherwise looks ideal. I have no idea about the quality of the drivers.

I would welcome your advice.

Personally i'm currently using a Roland Duo Capture Ex and am very happy about it.

I use a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 V2. A bit low on IO but it has a very low (My AT2035 is noisier) noise floor. The plugin collective is also a nice add on with all Focusrite products. Up to 192khz and extremely low latency, assuming your computer can keep up with it.

If you don't need the IO and just need one in and one out you can look at the Solo as well.

Thank you Dakkra & Mutools. Those both are interfaces I will consider.

Is there a reason to have more than 2 audio-ins and 2 audio-outs if I will only be recording one instrument or vocal track at a time and do not have any external hardware? I suppose I would want 4 outs if I was working with a four speaker setup.

Does anyone have experience specifically with Behringer audio interfaces and ASIO drivers?

I have often used the UMC 202HD and it works really well ,no problems with drivers.

That is good news. Thank you!

You're welcome d.vyd,
However,I would not recommend this particular model(UMC 202 HD).
If I have to choose a Behringer I would go for the UMC 204 HD.

Taifunk,

Focusrite products are known for low latency and low noise. Did you experience noise or latency with the UMC 202HD?

Unfortunately, I can not make a comparison,Often used the 202 HD with a setup for dj or to record some bass/guitar part,no latency problem, rather I'm always surprised by the quality for the price range, but about noise really I do not know give you a correct answer,I can only say that the new UMC series is light years ahead compared to the old Behringer series.

The Behringer U-PHORIA UMC404HD is hard to find right now in the U.S. I've ordered mine and hope to get it in early to mid-April.

Two months is a lot of waiting time, I hope you found it at least for a good price.

Most U.S. shops have it at $100 now. I think it is a good price.

I'll be looking at vocal and general purpose mics soon. I've posted a question about mics here if anyone wants to advise me:
