This is where Gmac's debian packages can be found.

I used the linux alien command, to convert the .deb to a .rpm

The light is in the end of the tunnel,
the tracks are vibrating, the lowpass filters
detect a rumbling in the force, birds of prey are circling
patiently overhead, as the linux Reaper draws closer and closer...

Amplitube 4.2 with Custom Shop app, and the authorization utility
working fine in wine 1.8 Their utility looked up my older IK gear serial #s
and I registered it on my newer computer, and added the older amps etc
using the 'restore my gear' menu option. It's nice when things work
as advertised.

Curious as to what orchestral VST's anyone has gotten working?

I've read that a Kontakt fan/user is working in wine developers team,
According to Reaper user osxmidi, if you can install the newest wine staging 2.4,

"Looks like with the new version of Wine(2.4) that fewer dll's need to be installed (maybe none) to get Kontakt 5.6 happening.

For Wine devel 2.1 I needed to install

msvcp140.dll
concrt140.dll
api-ms-win-crt-time-l1-1-0.dll
api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll
ucrtbase.dll "

Add them in the .wine
system folder, and in winecfg prefs, there is a place to list them
as 'over-rides', so wine knows it's using 'real' windows .dlls.
You might need to use NI offline registration for the full Kontakt,
but I think some sound libraries do their own reg routines
for the player registration.

A new vst bridge is being developed by osxmidi,
with good early success:

LinVst at https://github.com/osxmidi/LinVst

The elder Dimension Pro, and SampleTank 2.5/add-ons should
work in older 'stable release' wine/reaper in most cases.

The discoDSP Bliss sampler is multi-platform, so you could sample
a keeper in the windows/mac version, and use that in the linux version,
were it to your advantage.

New version of AVLinux bootable/installable media distro,
including wineasio, changes for using U-he linux ports in
Ardour 5.8, packaging improvements supporting Bitwig,
Mixbus 4.0x demo, some great new plugins/instruments,
and sundry updated versions ...looks like side effects
of the long Canadian winter benefit musicians
all around the world!

Have you seen Tracktion run on Raspberry Pi?

With great sound comes great power.

That debian package is old now, tons of improvements have been made,
when will a newer version be available?

How about right now? Gmac has kindly packaged
the much improved V5.403

8 meg of daw goodness...

(I still giggle like a schoolgirl sometimes when using
Hive, ACE, Zebra and Protoverb :hyper:
and there's no trace of apple and microsoft...)

Post

So how is U-he ProtoVerb ? I haven't bonded well with Linux reverbs , I like some of the plate verbs ladspa and the ir-lv2 verb but haven't found a Linux VST Verb that I like ... I really wish Valhalla DSP would make Linux VST and all would be well , but he's not wanting to go there ..

It's stable, and the randomizer functions work, so you can spend a day making
never-before-heard reverb presets, saving the keepers. You could also
search/ask in the Protoverb topic, for people who share their own creations,
gather tips etc. There is a ladspa 'Invada Early Reflection Reverb'
that some people really like, I like the TAL vst reverbs, but I'm far from
being a reverb connasoor. So I need to spend a day with Protoverb,
and a list of reverb buzzwords.

If you have a kxstudio repository, a lot of plugins are there in both
vst and lv2, with a meta package that installs both, if desired.
TAL among them.

The reaper linux port includes the reaper plugin collections,
and is getting a lot of improvements, and if you have commercial reverbs,
airwave vst bridge might well work fine, follow this airwave how-to, post #4

https://linuxmusicians.com/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=15927

There may be a step or two more depending on what daw you use,
bitwig, reaper, renoise, ardour-mixbuss, are all quite different

PhantomOne has kindly made a debian package
of his Airwave, to help folks along:

https://github.com/phantom-code/airwave ... _amd64.deb

airwave-manager is the app name to launch, for choosing
which vsts to bridge.

(yikes, I'm using last years model!)

Cheers

Thanks might have to fool with both Wine and ProtoVerb ...

Wine-staging latest release is at 2.9,
and 2.8 is becoming more mainstream
among the admittedly non mainstream userbase.

When used with vst wrappers Airwave and LinVst,
and perhaps some extra downloaded/copied windows .dll files,
windows synth and effects plugins have more linux compatibilty than ever.

Several daws have linux ports, reaper now running well
as a native linux daw, as well as running nicely in wine.
Having linux versions of Bitwig, Traction, Mixbuss and Reaper,
and the various content each brings along, means there
will always be a variety of workflows to choose from, and even combine.
Good times!

Binaries are available for these,
no compling unless desired.

Lots of progress lately for linux musicians, much of it encapsulated in
the ongoing linux port of reaper, the fast update cycles of wine-staging,
and the LinVst wrapper for windows .dll's, combined with new versions
of Qtractor, Guitarix, Yoshimi, Carla, some new cross-platform synths,
including a new Helm release, and new modeled gear plugins
from the Guitarix dev.

I saw that my last post was at #5999, so to celebrate an even number,
I'd like to thank the many denizens of KVR, who are quick to help
and educate, and share a good joke,
many of whom have 12,000 or more posts :hyper:
You surely have made my life easier, better, and a joy to continue on.

Let's keep the party rolling, so much to learn, so many tunes to compose!
Cheers
