hi, I have Cubase pro 8.5 and have "Updated".
I'm downloading the update installer.
My question is - will this give me the full Cubase 9 Pro install rather than updating the existing 8.5?
I'd prefer to retain 8.5 for some of the 32bit plugins and even more I'd rather my Cubase Pro 9 not pick up any preferences etc because I've recently had alot of issues and I suspect at least some of them are to do with the preferences being messed up in 8.5 - hence I'd like what would effectively be a clean install.

I'm not surely 100% what was missing, but, i updated 8,5 here, and some content, which was available from the full Cubase 9 Artist was missing in the end, so i ended up doing the full install anyway. So, i really recommend that.
If you didn't know, you can have Cubase 8.5 and 9 installed side by side. I actually did that, to be able to run some 32-bit plugs in 8.5. Works fine. Settings folder are separate also, so, it won't adopt the settings from the former version.

You can find it in your products in MySteinberg: https://www.steinberg.net/en/mysteinber ... ducts.html See the Downloads tab for the downloads.

that's where I thought it should be but it's not. In fact it doesn't have anything for 9 at all. I've logged out and back in to the account.

Did you let the eLicenser software do maintainanace work? If not, open it up, and let it do that, it should prompt you when you start it. Maybe your licenses haven't been synchronised with Steinberg's server yet.

I had that too.ChamomileShark wrote:that's where I thought it should be but it's not. In fact it doesn't have anything for 9 at all. I've logged out and back in to the account.
What is missing is registering Cubase 9 - and then the full installer shows up.
Somewhat unnecessary, but seems to be that way. Some awkward steps, eLicenser should be all needed, or something.
I first got a 2 GB installer for update, then the huge installer 10.5 GB shows up.

I had a similar problem with Cubase 8.5. If you write to Steinberg support, they can also provide download links.

I'm pretty sure it's as easy as to let the eLicenser software do the maintainance work. I never registered any of their products. They just showed up in MySteinberg after eLicenser did maintainance, which includes syncing your licenses.

First, with Prefs, it will grab the older version's no matter if upgrade or full install. Sometimes it will ask if you want to import the Prefs, but more often not. I always back up my prefs for future issues. You can re-name the App Data folder for the older version so the new can't grab them. I alway set it up from scratch, regardless and then back it up.
There's usually links to full installers in the Sticky's at the Steinberg C9 forums. Once you register C9 at MySteinberg, the full installer should show. An e-mail to info @ steinberg . de (no spaces) explaining the situation should get you a link.

Quick reply to OP-
Your 8.5 install is untouched when you install 9 if you are using default install folders. When I upgraded it left my 8.5 untouched...same with each other install.
When I read this I went to my folders to discover I had folders for every version back to 7.

What I experienced might be a coincidence, and coincided with delay at Steinberg of some sort.jancivil wrote:Yeah, you have to register the license, registering Cubase is not the real answer here.
So you may be right.

I've never registered any Steinberg software - Cubase, Wavelab, HALion etc. But I did register the eLicenser itself. All the software that isn't directly downloadable from the site is downloadable from my account. All the other software is there too.

Yeah, that's how I know. I only found the 'have you registered' every case of rebuilding preferences too annoying; the entire time I used Cubase 5, from 2009 thru 2015 I never registered it. Shortly after I got it the Yahama takeover happened and 'My Steinberg' came into being. I broke the dongle and finally had to deal with that, but I didn't care to register Cubase, I never had an issue acquiring updates, why bother. I did register C9 but I couldn't tell you why at the moment.
