I think that is more of a trade war to protect US antivirus companies. And maybe to destroy Kaspersky's reputation and ultimately the company because Kaspersky also tend to uncover government-sponsored malware more so than other such companies do.

My only problem with Kaspersky is that, like all solid AV suites, it gets deep into your computer, interfering with installations, Windows Update and what not.

There are similar campaigns against Chinese network companies ZTE and Huawei.
