I've been a guitarist for 26 years and recording for quite a while, but am somewhat newer to the MIDI and keyboard world.

I use Logic X and have iVCS3 and the Moog Model D app. Hardware is a late 2013 MacBook Pro running the latest 10.13.4, CME Xkey Air controller, Focusrite Clarett 2Pre. The Moog app is the only reason I've ever considered using something other than my software synths in Logic. I've been playing around with the routing and watching tutorials for using iOS synths in Logic X, but need a little help.

Is it possible to have both MIDI (sent to iPad) and audio (output from iOS synth sent to Logic) by justing the Lightning to USB cable?

thanks!

If you use the MusicIO app, you can connect the lightning to USB cable to your iPad and have Logic trigger the iOS synth and back in to Logic.

(There could be other apps - this is the only one that I'm aware of. Maybe someone else could chime in)

Thanks for the reply. I have the MIDI being sent and recieved, but am wondering just if I can transfer the iOS synth's audio output over the Lightning cable. Is it possible?

Without any extra software I can connect the audio output of my iPad to the mac. In Audio-Midi-Setup the iOS apears as a device when connected via cable. You might need to create an aggregate device to combine it with your interface...

You can do this entirely for free with midimux. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/midimux ... ?ls=1&mt=8

No need to pay for studiomux, because for audio, you can setup an aggregate device in Audio MIDI Setup with your iOS device and your audio interface, and point Logic at it.

Both work simultaneously over a single Lightning cable. This allows you to treat any iOS synth that supports iAU routing or inter-app MIDI as an external device in Logic or any other DAW. I've done this with Thor, Moog Model 15, DRC, Audulus, and Kauldron. Haven't tried it yet with Moog Model D, but it will work.
