Bought, and looking forward to getting home and giving it a spin
I was thinking about skipping it since I'm so into FM in modular now, but the demos sold me on it and the price is irresistable.

OMG that sounds so nice and authentic to my ears Obviously a lot of work was done to create the small details in the of vintage digital circuitry Digital with soul!davidv@plogue wrote:Yeah sorry swamped with the release of this:Pytchblend wrote:@David. Is that price regular or intro price?

So... No Master System PSG emulation?
And the Famicom synth will have the extra soundchips packed into some japanese cartridges, like Konami VRC6?
Any chance for an Atari TIA emulator?

I purchased PortaFM today... just too cool not to pick up right away.
My money is all ready to be plunked down on a modern high-quality 64-bit SID-emulated synthesizer plug-in.

The 32-bit HyperSynth SIDizer plug-in has some really nice presets, too, but I bet Plogue will provide SID synth presets as good as, if not better, than those from the 32-bit offerings.Caine123 wrote:Hope for some the last ninja like presets

PortaFM has as much “vibe, warmth, soul” as the best Synths out there. Really something special.

Will you be adding NKS support for PortaFM? It's great using Chipsounds with Komplete Kontrol. Would love to have PortaFM in the library as well!

This thing is lovely. Beyond the PSS keyboards I always wanted back in the day, the extra modulation and FX just makes it really shine. I also appreciate the historical notes about the OPLL in the manual
As for CPU: an instance with 2x custom sounds and 9x polyphony and all effects on runs about 2.5% CPU in Maschine on my 6 year old Core i7 960 @ 3.2GHz. Less than my usual suspects (Aalto, ArcSyn, Buchla Easel V, LuSH-101 etc.)

This thing has pushed my nostalgia buttons so hard.
It also appeals to me since 2-op FM is what I tend to go for in modular -- granted, expo FM and linear TZFM are a bit different than Yamaha phase modulation -- but I like the deceptive supposed "simplicity" of working that way instead of with 6-op or 4-op FM.
Also it makes gorgeous fuzzy pads and all kinds of lovelies.
It's funny, and gratifying, seeing people describe an FM synth as "warm" after all this time. I still mostly reject the warm/cold dichotomy but this synth definitely has character.

All our chipsytnhs are 64bit only so this takes care of that!Caine123 wrote: Please make the new sidsynth replaccing quadrasid . I love quadrasid and its sound but no 64bit :/

That will be part of 'chipsynth MD' since its a synth based on the MegaDrive/Genesis and of coursealvfaria wrote: So... No Master System PSG emulation?
there was a DCSG chip in there built into a support chip for backwards compatibility.
'chipsynth FC' is 2A03+VRC6+VRC7+S5B+FDS+MMC5+N163 yes.alvfaria wrote: And the Famicom synth will have the extra soundchips packed into some japanese cartridges, like Konami VRC6?
The TIA by itself is too simplistic to warrant its own chipsynth (but I have an idea in what we could put in).alvfaria wrote: Any chance for an Atari TIA emulator?
Note that the current TIA emulation in chipsounds is bit already accurate in a 'waveform to waveform manner'
Adlib has an OPL2, same with earlier SoundBlaster and is very similar to the OPLL.Caine123 wrote:stupid question, is this also the same as Adlib/OPL3?

(I have a video in the pipes with some of those details)
However the OPL3 which was used on later soundblasters and Adlib gold has a 4OP mode and lots more basic waveforms, though
to be honest that mode wasnt used as much in PC Games compared to the baseline OPL2 mode.
No PortaSound ever used an OPL3, (unless one surfaces that does - which I would be surprised) and since it would require a whole different UX work-flow so it was not included.
All chipsynths were designed from the the get go with NKS compatibility in mind.jackson881 wrote:Will you be adding NKS support for PortaFM? It's great using Chipsounds with Komplete Kontrol. Would love to have PortaFM in the library as well!
The NKS build of PortaFM is in the QA pipeline should be available *soon*
Cheers!

Are there rough time estimates for the next chipsynths? In which order are they going to come?
