MUX is a modular tool which means you can add modules wherever you need, including volume controls etc. To answer your question: You can add a Mixer Strip module for each of these instruments.

You want to have one MUX Event input module connected to two VST Event In connectors? Well, you start by dragging one connection from the Event Input module to the first VST's Event In connector. Then, once that connection is made, you then proceed by dragging a second connection from the Event Input module to the second VST's Event In connector.

In front of the drum VST add the Event Processor/NoteKey/Vel Filter module.
You can define the range of notes you want the module to pass on.
Put another module in front of the strings and assign the left over note range.

With the same Filter module you can also restrict to notes that are in a certain velocity range.
You can also filter by midi channel with the Midi Channel Splitter.
