Modular software options?

i'm not a modular fan, so i've got rid of ace and bazille. I still have reaktor and vcv pro.
In reaktor, there are some cool things, but it just mimics modular stuff and the gui is not resizable. Toybox have some crazy modules for reaktor , for example in their synth pack, there's a piano roll. But VCV is THE real modular stuff, though its hard to find the proper blocks to your needs from the great pile of available free and payware modules.
I mainly try to use vcv and reaktor to modulate/drive another plugin instruments in the DAW.
Imho there's no use building instruments in these modulars, because you can't build a Sylenth or a Serum. So I try to use my modular softwares for other purposes like fx and modulation...

in reaktor you could make something similar to sylenth or possibly serum(i don't know it so don't say for certain).

look in the user library, or even the factory synths, there are many standard type of synths

reaktor blocks you indeed cannot make them so easy, better for monosynths really (although i believe toybox have done some poly blocks?)

I really tried to like Reaktor, also tried instruments / blocks /racks from its user library.
I'm that kind of person who don't want to build, rather play instruments. The Gui in Reaktor is dated, the help text is too small.
Some of its sound are superb, others not.
For me, professional vsti plugins with modern gui (like serum or sylenth) are a better choice. I could say Massive X too, but it lacks some features, and I think NI dont care about improving its synths, they just release it, then not really update it.
Its just my oppinion, but because of this, i rather use other synths, that come from other developers who mainly develop their synths full time.

I use VCV rack2 stand alone and Cardinal in the DAW. I use a bit of reaktor but it's not as similar to euro rack.

How is the CPU usage compared to other cherry audio's product. I think their products are good in general but really CPU intensive on my machine

I would suggest trying something like pure data or Max/MSP to get a really good idea of how a digital modular system behaves deep down. If you really want to lean on the "euro rack on my computer" style of setups then they are all very capable and with the ability to have custom modules made I think it's more of a preference issue than anything. I use reaktor most of the time since I've had it for a million years now, but it's not necessarily "much better" than anything else. I'd go with the free vcv rack plugins if I was gonna get into this these days

I think it depends on the modules you run. I don't have a fierce ruling computer (yet) so I hit a wall after too many modules with Voltage Modular and VCV Rack. I just really like the workflow and usability in VM. Easy busing, macros, presets, cabinets, and some really interesting developers working on the platform. I still enjoy jumping back into VCV as well. Especially with some of the crazy patches that get shared on Patchstorage.

I love all modular environments whether a DAW, instrument or fx. I love the virtual cables especially if can see both the left and the right. I would love to see the cables light up when a signal is present. Extra love if multi-touch capable. But most of all I love it when the modular plugin can host other plugins. Yes I admit it, I’m in love with modular!!!

Pure Data is free, fast and more powerful than most others, but it is a (graphical) programming language, which affects the learning curve. but you can do anything with it. Max is the commercial version and more ready to go, but still needs some time to learn. for me personally it does not get more modular -- even with a hardware system
