How to get that sharp, snappy fusion snare? Is that a kit thing, a technique thing or a mixing thing?

How to do this, that and the other. Share, learn, teach. How did X do that? How can I sound like Y?

I don't know all too much about drums but I love this type of snare:

How do I get that? Any library or preset in anything that gets me there most easily? When I look at eg https://www.getgooddrums.com/products/o ... ern-fusion it doesn't sound like what I want at all.

Hehe, that Getgood one (whilst a decent kit sound) sounds far more like modern metal.. :hihi:

Now I can only advise on the stuff I know, but the Addictive Drums 'Funk' ADpak will get you close, e.g;

Which is me messing about with the 'Steely' preset for 5 minutes.

In general what you're looking for is stuff with a tight snare (not too much rattle), with the drum tuned quite high, and with a lot of damping. Probably a compressor with a fast release (or these days, a transient shaper) as well, and not a lot of room or reverb in the mix, but some overhead thwack (technical term).

I'm sure most of the other libraries will have similar.

Use a drum system that allows to set snares amount and decay.
- the snares part, not the drum
- but drum decay helps too if snares volume can be set

When less snappy, and more standard, snares ring out longer.
- the part often used as gated noise more or less on a synth
- you can always add such components to existing snares to overlay

Addictive Drums has it as one. My Yamaha DX700 module too.

But there is big difference in snares overall too, some more murky.
- and tuning pitch also makes a difference, first video is rather high pitched
- just swap snare until in the ballpark of brightness

First video almost sound Michael Jacksson gunshot style to me, but higher pitch here.

It’s always going to be a combination of things working together. Yes, it’s the snare selection. You need to start with a good foundation. You’re going to want a drummer to play it with the right technique. How and where the snare is hit makes a huge difference. A good drummer can get a wide variety of sounds with technique alone. Then you’re going to want to use compression and EQ to augment and enhance those qualities that are already there. So it’s not just one good decision, it’s all decisions reinforcing each other.
THIS MUSIC HAS BEEN MIXED TO BE PLAYED LOUD SO TURN IT UP

Find a library that has picollo snare samples.
