Help trying to reproduce this Jon Hopkins bass sound

It's kind similar but not very close. It seems to me like a disorted sub of some sort.

How would you approach this sound?

OK I made a Vital preset in a bit of an awkward way.

Any synth with a square wave and an eq will do the trick.
I tried making it in one preset with the 2 filters and the built in eq but you can see how it's made and replicate it with any other synth/daw

Are you sure it is a square wave? I was leaning more towards the saw wave

I the lower region of the sound it's solely a square. Perhaps some ditortion was used to create some harmonics that would be present in a saw but I don't think so.

If you open it and play around with it for a bit you'll see/hear the similarity.

Yeah, you are right. It is definetely a square with some aggressive cut in the mid around 700Hz or so
