Here's the mid

Import it into the daw of your choosing
Here's a quick and dirty rendering from Mixcraft Pro 9

Shamefully I don't have a large collection of virtual guitars/amps.
I did swap the drum kit and the bass. Ran the bass through guitar rig and added some fat eq to the master.

I'm super excited that you took the time . . . rusty or not. I just downloaded. These are perfect for auditioning amp sims and cabs. At the risk of being super greedy . . . if you have a little time . . . any time . . . Paperback Writer dry? I feel bad even making this request. I hope you don't think less of me.The Noodlist wrote: βThu Feb 22, 2024 10:56 pm I'm a bit rusty and it shows. I should start playing songs again instead of noodling. Anyway, enough excuses.
Writer has a amp sim on it, I forgot to take it off, the other 2 are direct.

I think many of us can find fault within ourselves and it can manifest longer the more we don't play.
Part of that can be fear of failure leads us not to play out which leads us to not playing in. I'd prolly be a stronger player if I played to my strengths rather than always trying to reinvent myself.
Listen to an album, not a greatest hits. You'll find some songs that speak to you and some that were just someone going through the motions. Many a songwriter has complained that the songs they thought were going to be hits missed and vice versa. With that you can extrapolate ... Don't make it about not making mistakes or believing the next song will be your greatest. Don't compare what you are doing now with what you have done in the past.
On Songwriting
Treat it as work. Whether you simply want to play a song or write a song.
Dont carry everything on your back

I'm a multi-instrumentalist. I used to do everything from scratch into a four track cassette deck. I'd write a progression and keep it in my head. These days I'm smarter. I'll find some common progressions

Put them into biab. Pick a style close to what I want and use a common song form to pull it all together.

I love huge complex songs for listening. I'd rather have a finished song in a week or a month so I don't try to complicate the song form. YMMV but seriously focus on completing the song rather than finding another excuse.
Get it done. dont put all your eggs into one song. Don't expect the world to love you for your music.
On Playing
Don't be like me. Stay in your lane.
When I switch approaches I have to go back to square one and it's often a point of frustration. My jazz chord melody stuff is great. My pop fingerstyle chord melody sucks. Me chasing after something new to my playing is just more clutter. I do it because I'm bored with myself.
I've had times where I didn't practice something for years and... it takes not forever but a little while to get back in my game. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater and don't try to save the world with one day. Play slowly a few times through, go back to it on successive days and build yourself up slowly.
Reward yourself with improvisation.
The guys I've heard that suck the most are the ones who don't practice and then decide they can just jam. Trust me I've hosted blues jams I try to be nice to the guys who bring buddies and buy lots of beer because that's what jam nights like Karaoke are all about.
Set one or two nights a week where you aren't practicing to let loose. Focus on chord tones.
There are plenty of jam tracks on YT

Personally I prefer BIAB for jamming over
