-Huge amount of effort by the devs here to build plugs
-Little effort from most of the rest here to post presets
-KVR patch database is rather thin
-Patcharena appears to be dead - at least no updates for a year or so
-KVR has become the dominant forum in its field in a way that very few forums do, so it would seem the ideal place to have patch banks
-Increasingly common for freeware plugs to have NO presets!
-A lot of recent complaining about the price of commercial banks
-Judging by the posts, there should be a huge amount of patch designing talent here - or perhaps it's all hot air????
So how about a mini patch competition? Maybe the mods here pick one freeware plug-in every fortnight or so, and everyone just submits ONE patch.
For synths, maybe the competition could have a theme - say "basses", "ethereal", or "tarnce".
Might also work for FX presets too - someone could supply a sample which could be a single instrument or a full mix depending on the plug-in in question.
Would need a volunteer to compile the patches into a bank, but there's tools to do that.
Devs could support the competition by offering one of their commercial synths as the prize for designing patches for one of their free ones.
Judging could be by vote or left to the mods, or the dev of the plug/prize.
Best patch wins!
Or maybe a competition isn't needed? With a little organisation it shouldn't be too hard to compile a load of banks with a little bit of effort from a lot of people.
