Not quite bending, but still in the vein of DIY 'elctronical stuff...
According to Matrixsynth, the Bleeplabs Thingamagoop optical-noisemaker-robotty thing is now also available as a kit.

Those are nice little kits, I'm going to pass, though.
I just finished (well, it's functional) my 'lectric scooter and I'm more interested in weird voice changers than bleepy things. If they had a kit for a signal-altering device, I'd be more erect.

Just poppin' in to say that I scored a Speak and Spell, with a Noun Ending expansion module, for forty cents yesterday.
Now that I have two S+S's, I'm comfortable with ripping one open and just placed and order for the MIDISpeak2 kit. I'm half-tempted to wire one up for ROM playback, and one for Keypad.

I am reading REEDs book right now. Have read through most of the thread, didn't see mention of these sites, had to do some searching for parts dealers, maybe helpful to someone else.

thanks for the useful info. I am looking forward to electrocuting/burning myself soon.

Brilliant thread!
I was introduced to circuit bending by a college lecturer, but have never had a go myself.
Thanks for the [many] links.

Except for actually wiring it in, I've just finished the MIDI Speak kit for my Speak and Spell by Highly Liquid. I'm holding on installing it until I do as Cedric Bodereau did, and wire it up for switching between Keypad and ROM playback modes (see Part 3 of the User Project Roundup, in Highly Liquid's blog).
Edit: I think I know how he did it. I'm going to pick up a few things this week and work on m'own.
I'd really recommend it - the 'board layout is easy to work with and the instructions on their site is clear as day.

Finally done. Using the mentioned Highly Liquid kit, a modified idea by Cedric Bodereau - it can use both Keypress and ROM modes. So like, more stuff.
Anyhow, it's on my site and direct address to mp3 examples...

I'm once again on 4 hours of sleep before work, so I'm sleeping now. Love, bye.

*ump* (unnecessary, kind-of, since it is a sticky) *ump*
I spent most of my Election Day writing up a really long 'How-to' for dual-wiring a MIDISpeak kit in a Speak and Spell.

If you wanna get your nerd on, or gander at the inner-guts of my nerd, I hope you find it useful.

Hello, just noticed this thread
I have an old Yamaha SHS-10 (actually belongs to an ex-gf, doubt she needs it now). Makes some great organic glitches when you poke around on the circuit board. I use it a lot on a project:

Check out the 5th track, Somebody's Watching Me for a good idea what this keytar can do.
