Reaper gets External Hardware Plug/Auto Delay Compensation

Audio Plugin Hosts and other audio software applications discussion

It's called ReaInsert, a plug for sending audio/midi from any FX Chain to external hardware and back...has auto-detect delay compensation.

There were workarounds before, now here's the real deal for professional applications.

Don't worry, I'm only posting when it's something important that the pros have been asking for... not spamming you with minor updates :)

The midi editor is improving every week, the midi guys seem pretty happy now (still plenty of FRs for things though!) But they aren't using external programs anymore ...the best thing to get what you need in there is do an FR (more than likely it's on the list to be done by now).

The audio side is really sweet now :)

It's impossible to edit. I suppose I'm spoiled, as I use the FL Piano Roll, which totally rox harder than essentially any other PR I've ever used, though.

It's little things. Trying to program a sequence is a PITA in Reaper, trying to setup a MIDI lane is a PITA (you have to use a special context menu, I mean come on! I know you can set a keyboard shortcut but it's like they're hiding it on purporse), the Piano Roll view is not very intuitive (the grid settings are all strange, editing most things requires a series of clicks, etc.)

But any host that can export .flac files is automatically teh win. I'll probably wait for REAPER 2 to really start using it.

It does, but I think they need improving if I recall. I'm a midiot so don't ask me :)

The development speed of Reaper is astounding. Looking forward to a fully functional Mac version...

Editing MIDI in REAPER is no longer a PITA whatsoever imo. I find no need anymore to use eXT for MIDI arrangements. Yea the worst thing about REAPER is that it makes you regret many investments in lots of other stuff. Did any DAW see so many major improvements in so short a time after the launch of v.1.0? REAPER is at 1.806 now. As Ian Curtis sang: where will it end?

eXT MIDI editing wasn't spectacular either, IMO. If I can't click out 4 bars worth of notes in 6 seconds the Piano Roll is too convoluted.

You should definitely put some ideas in the feature requests page then. FWIW, Jason was a huge FL Studio user and I think he's doing everything in Reaper now, so you'd have some support for getting what you want out of the midi side of reaper. Don't assume you won't get heard, I'm not even paid up yet and I've snuck a few ideas in. :)
