Very cool, using it on Neko's Nerve synth and it's really punchy-ish. Thanks!

I know that 100% attack is 200% in the old but I tried to match them and the new version sounds a bit more "distant" and "grainy" compared to the old version.
Okay I think I got it fixed:

Any other feedback? (Especially regarding the smoothing parameter, since I'm toying with the idea of ditching it, or make it more obvious.)

I just tried the new version and compared it to the 1.19.2008 and 1.25.2008 versions. It is now slightly better than the 1.25.2008 version but I still think you are losing some resolution somewhere. I can not put my finger on it but something is not as "coherent" as in the 1.19.2008 version and you can hear it as slight distortion/grain.

That drumloop I linked to earlier is an excellent example. Put the detector to MID and the Process to SIDE, full attack (200% on old, around 100% on new) then adjust smoothing to get as close to each other as possible.

Now listen closely to the "coherence" of the stereo image and the transients of the high hat. The 1.19.2008 is more "natural", that is, it's closer to the original loops audio fidelity. You can clearly hear the room without any added distortion/grain. In the new version there is still some slight loss of fidelity which translates in a "pushed back" soundstage. That is, the drums are not so individual any more, they are all on a similar 2D soundstage.

I can not explain what I hear, better than this. I've confirmed with ABX test (I did a quick run of 50 tries, I missed two, got 48 correct) that I'm not fooling myself.

EDIT: Perhaps the shape of the envelope is more logarithmic in the original which makes the initial transient feel "dry". That is, adding attack, brings out the drum itself, not the reverb tail. Whereas in the new version, adding attack also brings out some of the reverb. It's strange..

EDIT2: There is definitely some added distortion of some kind in the new version, compared to the old. It's quite easy to hear when you boost the output with a highshelf from 5kHz. I've matched the two as closely as possible by using the phase reverse trick of a cloned loop. I then apply a high quality EQ on both files (same plugin, set on master output). Here are the audio files:

Old version
New version

Listen closely to the high hat and the reverb that it creates in the room.

EDIT3: Actually, thinking about it a bit more, it might not be distortion. It could simply be that the new version has a different shape of the envelope, a more "spikey" shape, thus enhancing a very short bit of the high hat in the loop, which would make the end results seem harsher/brighter.

I hope I didn't discourage you too much! The differences are very subtle so don't stress too much about my comments! :)

No, you encouraged me to find where everything changed, so I double and tiple checked that the detector and processor of the M/S matrix act the same, when set to 100% or 0%, as they did before when setting to Mid/Side or stereo. But frankly to my knowlege they do the same.
So I went to investigate the 'inaccuracies' (a tiny little offset to prevent the envelope from falling to 0 = -inf dB, to prevent sudden spikes on attack transients when the sustain was boosted) and that must have been it, but I can not and will not remove this, because this is for safty! E.g. when you feed snare hits from a sampler to it, which tend to have pure silence between them, the envelope will drop to -inf dB and thus f**k up the whole math, and then on the next snare hit you get a HUGE spike in the audio, and I don't want anyone to ever experience this again.

But I'm currently working on aiming the transients to 0dBFS, so there won't be any more sudden overs and clipping etc...

Another thanks for this. It can boost transients to be punchy, like Flux does, but I just found out it can mutilate stuff.

I put it on that new Genesis synth, then smashed the whole recording thru ReaComp, and whoa.

Thanks!

Hm... any news on this one? I recently tried the "official" release on MGA's page, but didn't get any result. Should check out the latest beta if I get something out of it.

Thanks for the plugin so far - if it's working for me, I have a new secret weapon for my studio.

well its the older version. no m/s processing :(

Oh well it's not available anymore. I use Reaper, so I already have the other one is JS format.

It can still be downloaded from http://loser.asseca.com/downloads/ (however it is still in the same state as it was back then ... I don't even remember whether that was a good or bad one).

Also I have to apologize for so abruptly discontinuing this :( ... but before anyone gets made I also posted the source code at http://loser.asseca.com/downloads/src/MGA_TranShaper/ (plus no one had complained (yet) about not having an update so it can't be that bad that there never was final version)

Anyway I hope no one is mad. It's just that my priorities (among OS preference) have changed. So VST coding isn't part of that anymore. Though I try to keep the old stuff around and also try to make sure people aren't too inconvenienced by my change of mind and can still use there old projects and stuff.

Again sorry but this effect is hereby officially discontinued.

Cool, thanks. That's fine w/me if you move on to other type projects.
