If I was to visit the Waves site and purchase some plug-ins, they would be V9 correct ? 64bit compatible ? AND !!! Not require the iLok ?
Or am I missing some hidden sub-text that could be important.

yes, correct; follow the video tutorial on how to download the v9 and the related plugins; it is as simple as that

Thanks, so what is the Waves Cloud authorisation like ? Seems pretty simple I guess. They mention being able to save it on a USB stick, is that so you can use the plug-ins anywhere provided the stick is in place ? Like the normal dongle ?

All V9 versions are 64bit and 32bit and no longer use iLok. They use the Waves License Centre.
Once you've downloaded the V9 installer you run it and tick the plug-ins you want to install and the Waves License Center is also installed and the shortcut placed on your desktop. You can then authorise the plug-ins for that computer. You will see a hard drive icon relating to that computer which you can rename.
If you want to run the plug-ins on another computer you need to de-authorise the current computer and send the activations back to the cloud (which is basically the Waves server) using the licence centre.
Then when you want to use them on your second computer or laptop you need to open the licence center (once the plug-ins have been installed of course) and the licences can be accessed from the cloud and then you can authorise your computer from there.
It may take a bit of getting used to if you're moving between different locations. I had a problem at first when I had my plug-ins authorised on one computer in one location and return to another location and had forgot to send the licences back to the cloud. So I had to return to the first location to do that. Once you get the hang of it it's fairly seamless although if you don't have an Internet connection this can be a problem. But there is an option to use a USB stick to transport the licences although I haven't tried that.

.......and makes it clear to me that for a simple two computer set up, an ilok is more convenient (never thought I'd say that!)
I have another piece of software that uses this "one - computer-at -a - time- virtual- dongle" system and it was a nightmare.
Why can't they allow it so that you can be authorised on 2 computers simultaneously- never did Native Instruments no harm.
