DR 910 by MaxSynths, costing €25 (32 bit only)
Worth it for the BCR-2000 template.

go the sample route, miniscule cpu overhead. such short sound bursts hardly require being synthesized in a dedicated vst.

i use Linplug RMiV's built in tone generators for hats and other purcussion
but samples for the 909 kick and snare. works for me :D
HW SYNTHS [KORG T2EX - AKAI AX80 - YAMAHA SY77 - ENSONIQ VFX]
HW MODULES [OBi M1000 - ROLAND MKS-50 - ROLAND JV880 - KURZ 1000PX]
SW [CHARLATAN - OBXD - OXE - ELEKTRO - MICROTERA - M1 - SURGE - RMiV]
DAW [ENERGY XT2/1U RACK WINXP / MAUDIO 1010LT PCI]

Check out the BCR-2000 template. That will take this pretty far beyond samples.

For me, by far the best 909 emu is the free one from Marvin vst. The toms especially are absolutely nailed.

Don't know if it is good. But SuperWave has an incredibly cheap 909 drum synth

No, it isn't that good, they are single samples for each drum sound, MaxSynths one looks alright, probably best to judge his against D16 Drumazon. However I don't need one myself as I got the Aira TR-8 but I will demo MaxSynths one out of curiousity...

Each DAW has a different sound.

I don't like tha bassdrum of Tromin Z very much.
But their BDX, HCX, reTromine and TromineGT are sperb.
At last! Someone else recognises how good these instruments are. I get the feeling that because they're synthedit and haven't had any KVR hype most folks pass them up. All his vst's sit head and shoulders above most other software I've ever tried. I get the feeling it's almost all custom code as there's only one or two modules sitting in the synthedit folder. Although you don't like the bass drum you must admit that the toms (and the snare really) are superb in Tromine Z ;)

What's the going rate for Drumazon in the marketplace?

The cymbals are technically copyrighted so that may present a problem.

Of course, if you have Sonar, then groove machine has a 909 already I think. Maybe not the best, but official.

Has anyone mentioned xoxox's bong?

Not a direct emulator, but inspired by, I find it sounds excellent. Just a synth though, no sequencer. That's fine by me. I always found the originals to be too restrictive.

Session Drummer 2 (16 bit wav files) and Session Drummer 3 (FLAC files) in Sonar have Roland approved 909 samples.

Groove Machine is an Image-Line product.
