I made a thread about this in the sound design forum, but haven't received and feedback. I suppose because people visit to learn how to make sounds, not to answer these kind of questions.
My aim is to put together twenty or so presets (With all the variations of course, so 160 variations) and sell it for $5. Two questions: 1) Does this pricing seem reasonable? 2) What's the best way to distribute a product like this? Particular software for a web store, etc. Something that, if not automatic, would at least let me distribute unique, time-sensitive download links to users. |

$5 for 20? Pretty reasonable if you ask me! |

The pricing seems reasonable to me - I think anything up to $10 would be fair enough.
As regards a web store - I don't know. The easiest option would be to use PayPal - just put a PayPal button on your site and fulfill orders manually via email. You could send a link to a password protect RAR file and provide the password in the email. If you want a more sophisticated approach, then you'll probably end up spending more time and money on it - possibly more than you will make in sales. My other piece of advice is to make sure that your presets adhere to our guidelines - your users will thank you for it: http://www.camelaudio.com/alchemymanual/sound-designer-guide lines/ In particular, I suggest you pay attention to the CPU guideline - it takes a bit of time to work through the advice for keeping CPU under control, but its almost always possible to make a CPU intensive sound use an acceptable amount and have it sound almost identical. Also, I recommend packaging your sounds as a RAR file with folder structure like our CamelSounds files and renaming the extension with .CamelSounds, as this will mean you'll save yourself lots of time explaining to users how to install sounds. I'd strongly encourage you to send in 10 of your best finalised presets to support@camelaudio.com. We of course won't use any sounds without permission. Our quality standards are high, so please don't be offended if we don't accept your sounds. Our rates of pay per preset are up with the highest in the soft synth industry, and your sounds would reach a wide audience, and you'd be able to focus on sound design rather than all the other stuff. Whatever you decide to do, I wish you well with your sound design Ben |

I think I will have to start saving for Alchemy full. O_O This is a tremendous offer from you guys! But, having only Player now, I can't participate with my presets. With time, though... see my signature! |

TFF,
$5-15 is a good sweet spot for this sort of thing, especially if you are just starting and don't have a name for yourself yet. Good luck with your venture. |

Ah, I didn't know you guys would accept that kind of thing, outside of the contests at least. Is the pay rate the same as it was for the last contest? I probably will send them your way once I have ten I feel are worth sharing. Thanks for all the info. |

Please make sure all presets meet the sound design guidelines (see above for link) and pick your best 10 to send in. If we like them Col will be in touch. We of course will not use any sounds or samples, unless we pay you for them. Cheers Ben |
