I know it's got that rugged german look but it would be more fun to use if it had that sleek modern american/japanese look instead.

I got Kontakt when it was in v4, and I don't think the Interface layout has anything to do with nationalities (as I live in Germany and see no connection) ... but I agree, it has been outdated and "unpractical" for a long time.

I truly hope they are going to concentrate on this matter in Kontakt 6.

I vote for the *Flux* UI designers to do the "face-lift".

Bigger font sizes would help a lot too!

Its interface is one of the main reasons I never use it - not just its GUI but the way you need to access and change sound data. Pain inna ass just auditioning stuff.

A resizable window for building/editing instrument mappings would be a huge improvement. This could be a separate app if necessary.

Agreed ! Wish they would give it a more modern MachFive or Halion 4 GUI..

As great as Kontakt is, it's very unintuitive to work with or be creative with, primarily because of it's GUI.

Here's hoping things change...

Well I've been using Kontakt sine version 2, and I hope they DON'T change it because I know where everything is and I don't want to waste my time trying to find things that have moved.

So here's a vote for KEEPING THINGS the way they are.

I really don't want to feel as if I am learning the software all over again.

BTW If you can't figure Kontakt out, then buy yourself a cheap tutorial set of videos to learn your way around. Wink

Use standalone version, then you can pop-out the mapping and wave editors. There are three sizes available for popped-out windows, and you can change these dimensions in the registry.

Instead of Group Editor, you can use the Monitor->Groups tab in Kontakt's browser.

Racism much?!

What "is" a modern american or japanese look anyway?
3D realistic GUI's? Flashy colors?

Now say that Ableton Live is just as rugged since it's from Germany... Same with Cubase, Logic, Samplitude, etc...

I'm working on a new sound library/instrument in Mach5 3 not Kontakt.

I agree with the OP and would like to add the following.

- The very unefficient GUI with big empty areas of nothing combined with tiny, tiny, tiny buttons, makes very unefficient use of GUI screen estate.
- Better use of GUI screen estate would make bigger buttons possible that you don't need a microscope for to see.
- The tiny, tiny buttons that you need precision mouse moves to navigate and click, is a nightmare for me with carpal tunnel syndrome.

I've had Kontakt since 1.0 and I've used it for only a fraction of all money I've put in it. I just hate the GUI. Sadly, there is no other sampler that has the libraries that I want.
