We all know due to the implosion of the music industry, downloading piracy, pro tools loaded laptops everywhere = A shitty market for audio engineers.
What can we do to earn more for being the highly skilled creative technician a great recording engineer needs to be?
The only way for us to make more money is for the musical artists to make more money.
HomeRecordingman is an animated super hero character on a crusade to make the case that if someone loves your music they should support you and purchase, not steal your songs. I know that's naive but I do believe our hero can persuade, maybe guilt trip a small percentage of music fans into supporting the cause. Without any return the better music just can't go on.

That's a good one. I'm a big fan of presets as I have no idea what I'm doing with compression. But I'm more of a songwriter than an expert audio engineer.
That's why I respect the experts so much. It's easy to throw together a mix that sounds decent. But to go way beyond that involves a lot of experience and talent.
I'm lucky enough to have some great ones do my mixing.
But I have to do rough mixes first to see how the song is sounding, and I certainly know what I need to know to record good sounding tracks.
And I've hired people who call themselves "expert engineers"
even I'm better than most of them.

I'm not joining any crusades, I don't like the idea of crucifixion. Seriously, being top not at anything is something not very many people can achieve, so why don't we leave the things on their own course.
