I'm pretty excited about this. The huge increase in resolution and possible quad processor will really catapult music apps.

Where did you see this?

EDIT: as I hit submit the guy on Sky News mentioned about next Wednesday's event and said, 'I reckon a new one of these could on it's way', holding up an iPad 2 :)

well Gizmodo have posted it, so by now, probably everywhere....

Perhaps that person has quite small hands, but the ipad looks like it may have gotten bigger.

Or maybe it comes in two sizes now. That would be nice.

Some people have noticed that it no longer has a home button in the picture. Perhaps multi-touch gestures now make this no longer necessary? I still like having the option of pressing the home button, however.

It might have been flipped around.

I need an iPad for testing, so quite keen to see what Apple release.

Hoping for Retina Display + a quad core CPU. Dual core will be ... very disappointing.

Peace,
Andy.
... space is the place ...

The big question is the price. If it has quad core and this retina display will we see a price jump over previous models? If they manage to keep the price structure is it is now with all this new stuff it will be very tempting.

Post

There was a story on mac rumors with an image of what is claimed to be the logic board of the ipad 3. Most notably, the processor had A5X written next to an apple logo. If this in in fact true, then this means that it is most likely a slightly improved dual core processor, as opposed to the quad core A6. Very disappointing, if true.

Post

It's all pure speculation at the moment. Before iPad 2 there was similar supposed leaks & inside information. A lot of it turned out to be bullshit. Retina display + quad core = a price that is just too high??!!;

If the price is too high it makes the iPad 3 less attractive to more people. If it isn't seen as a big enough leap forward then people won't be impressed & may be put off buying. Tricky one for Apple. How will they cope without Steve Jobs at the helm? iPhone 4S was a big let down for many. iPad 2.5 anyone?!

Yeah most the fans and reviewers said that, but different market analyses still claim that it is their most succesful iPhone with regard to sales. Like this one

So despite critics claiming the iPhone 4S was doomed to fail because it didn't have a new form factor, NFC support, or bear the iPhone 5 moniker, the iPhone 4S has proven to be the most successful smartphone that Apple has ever produced. AT&T seems to agree, releasing a statement that said that the iPhone 4S launch was their most successful iPhone launch ever.

Or this one

http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/ip ... illion.php
To put things in perspective, when the iPhone 4 launched last year, it set a record for Apple by racking up 600,000 pre-orders in a single day. Even though it's not the dramatically overhauled iPhone 5 many were hoping for, Apple's latest gadget has smashed the company's previous single day sales record by more than 66 percent. In terms of first day pre-orders, the iPhone 4S is the most successful product Apple has ever released.
An "iPad 2.5" might be just as successful to anything but fans with maybe-a-little-too-hyped expectations. The rumor sites is often filled with a tons of requested features that will not make it, so some disappointment seem inevitable.

Cheers

Disappointment is inevitable for some. The iPad is a victim of it's own success. People expect the Earth. I very much doubt Apple will deliver because people just expect too much from the next incarnation of the iPad.

I'm really happy with my iPad 2. To be honest I don't know what else I'd like to see. Retina display? I think the display is already awesome. Card slot? I don't really need it now. USB port? Don't really feel like I need that either. The only thing that would make me want an iPad 3 is if it's extra power meant I couldn't run some new Apps that I wanted & that took advantage of the extra performance. There are some amazing Apps on iPad already. It would have to be a pretty special App to make me want to get an iPad 3 just to be able to run it.

Like I said, a victim of it's own success. I don't feel the need to upgrade & as such I'm not at all excited about iPad 3. The iPad 2 is already fantastic for me as it is. I feel a lot of what we might see is more gimmicks. I keep seeing this voice recognition thing advertised for iPhone 4S. That just doesn't float my boat. I see it as a gimmick. The iPad 2 for me is much more than a gadget geeks play thing.

I'm excited as I have the original iPad and feel that an upgrade is now justified. Wasn't interested in the '2' and I think 'buy one, miss one' will be a sensible approach to tablet computing. I will also be keeping my existing one as it is still very capable and useful.

My prediction is that Apple will have two versions of the iPad 3, and it will be the iPad 'pro' that will have a higher price, faster quad CPU and maybe even the retina display. The standard version will be less spec'd but still retain the existing pricing model.

Just my HO.

I think that's a very good approach. Especially when you look at the 'jump' from iPhone 4 to 4S. Not so much in it so less incentive to upgrade. Inspite of this iPhone 4S has apparently been a success. But is that more to do with people simply upgrading on their contracts? A bit of a different demographic with a tablet device wouldn't you think? iPad 4 for me in any case ;)

This sort of idea was speculated for iPad 2. Many thought that there might be 2 versions of different sizes. It's possible I suppose. Maybe Apple could end up marketing the iPad more like their Mac Book range with an entry level machine & more powerful Pro version. But that seems to be a big change from the current direction where all versions have the same guts just with different size storage & the option of 3G networking.

Part of the initial attraction of iOS devices for me was the simplicity of the range. It kind of warms you into the iOS fold. By contrast Android phones are a minefield of different products from different manufacturers. I'm not a device geek! I wouldn't know where to start or what I was buying!! :? It's very confusing. I don't think I've ever seen more than two people with the same Android phone! With Apple it's just iPhone 3 or 4(s). That's it! Nice & simple. I'm comfortable with that 8)
