There are so many patches with this I'm not sure where to start. What are people's favourites?

I really like "Active grains of picked glass" and "Glorious guitars"

why don't you just audition them all ?

many people moan they want more presets in omnisphere.

if there are 4000 patches and you take 60 seconds to preview each patch.. then you should (like the others) be able to check in no time at all.

care to do the hour math ?

That's only like 2 days.

I mean, I know that that's two days total (i.e. audition time), but Omni's been out for like a year...

Yeah problem is whenever I hit a good one (and there are many) I don't just spend 60 seconds on it but play it for ages.

I'm saving each one I like best as a Kore Sound though as Kore has a better system for tagging favourites imho

The problem is that it's so dependent on taste. I actually heavily dislike "glorious guitars" - sounds very cheesy to me

I'd say I've never had a synth where I liked so many patches, although there's certainly loads of patches I'd probably never use.

Wait, Kore works with any plugin?

Yes, that's the whole point of the thing.

"Adagio Expressivo" is my favourite. Its such an emotional and powerful sound.

Well, that makes a bit more sense. Up until now I've kinda dismissed Kore as just a ROMpler. Not sure if I'd drop $200 on it anytime soon, though.

The ones I've actually used the most so far are the Jupiter 8 and OB-8 multisamples...work great on their own or stacked with softsynths to give the sound a little more real-analog "hair" on it. Having a taste of the Prophet VS in there is great too (brings back memories of owning one years ago). Eric and company do a great job of sampling classic synths and producing an end result that sounds sweet in a mix and actually "feels" good playing it. I wouldn't mind seeing an Omnisphere expansion pack at some point that delved even further into vintage synths. The guitar textures, choirs, etc. are all useful too, of course, even if I already had some of that material in the original libraries from which they were derived.

My only wish is that it didn't snag ~200MB of RAM for itself as soon as you open the GUI. I'd probably be using it more if the RAM hit was smaller (obviously moving up to a 64-bit system eventually will solve that). Using it in tandem with Stylus RMX and Kontakt on a 32-bit system, you can start hitting the RAM ceiling pretty fast.

+1 to the RAM hit - sometimes I use a rubbishy Kontakt library patch just cos it's open and I can't face losing half a gig for one instrument!

As someone who has previously said "it would be great if there were more patches" (which I do hope isn't the same thing as moaning), the reason is that if you need something really specific it's surprising that you keep coming up against the same few options. Maybe it's a tagging issue and I just haven't found other gems that would suit. For instance, this morning I was a after a disturbing, short screechy noise that feels real, not electronic. There were a few options, but nothing really floated my boat. I'm lucky enough to have Symphobia, and found something in its Dystopia section instead. I can well believe there were more hidden gems in Omnisphere that would have done the job, but when you're in the heat of battle, if something quick doesn't present itself, you tend to look elsewhere.

So both with patches and tagging, it's like you can never have enough imho! I don't think of it as an instrument to go through each patch one by one, I tag down til I'm in the ballpark I'm interested in.

FWIW - for sheer playing fun, I love Glorious Guitars! Never used it in a song or cue yet, but love playing it.
