ValhallaÜbermod hiss and NoiseGain

First, I love this plugin. I find myself using it on every track. One of the first things I think when I hear a great sound as I'm working is, I wonder what that would sound like through ValhallaÜbermod. Very cool.

Using some of the presets I get a lot of noise/hiss in Ableton Live and Logic. BasicTapeEcho is a good example. The effect is stunning, but the hiss I could do without.

So then I dig a bit deeper and find NoiseGain. Is the purpose of NoiseGain simply to introduce a tape like hiss? Does adjusting NoiseGain have other effects?

NoiseGain just adds noise at a given dB. If you don't want noise, just turn it down to -120 dB.

The only effect this has other than adding noise to the signal, is impacting how long self-oscillation kicks in for a tape echo preset, in the absence of an input signal. A real tape echo / BBD will have a lot of noise, which kicks the echo into oscillation when the feedback is turned up.
