Did you sample anything from the orignal tune? Because some of that sounds spot on.

On your main synth, there's far too much low end. I would try some reso on the super saw, it gives it more "air" and less of a punch.

Theres a piano layered under the saw to give that bite to the start of each chord. Probably a nexus preset with plenty of reverb. I think you need to layer the saw in more over the bassnotes after the big build. Good work!

Im trying to get my head around the chords for these kind of sounds. Did you use triads or is it just notes played with octave spacing?

Post

i dont think my chords are right.. but 2 notes at once... and then over octaves.. btw ur right there probably is the same piano as in break in the other video of this song... i ll try it

I'll start out my reply, pointing out that I am not an experienced sound designer - but I would love to help out, since this is the track I would definitely be chasing to replicate myself, if you haven't.

I think you're right about the pad. Axwell is usually about all his "professor-shit" :) so this probably isn't as easy to nail, as it might sound.

But the main things i hear, is a really powerful stab/pluck made from another supersaw, and then a "regular" supersaw, to give it the kind of tail thats "above" the pad, which is also sort of a tail..

I could be wrong about the stab/pluck - it might be a piano as someone already implied. Maybe it's even both? It's hard to judge from laptop speakers :-)

By the way - doesn't the buildup sound awfully alot like "walking alone" by dirty south? hehe..

well i finished the remake of this track... so far sounds like this... i think my notes on piano are wrong because it doesnt give me chills like the real version :D

Post

Really good effort! I think its just the mixing that makes it. I'd bring out the high end a little more and the piano.

Wow that sounds great! :) Really impressed with your work! Would you mind telling us how you've done the synths? Please... :)

well there are 4 OSCs all 8 voices and quite heavily detuned (45% of the knob), 2 of them are octave above the other 2, EQ adding treble part (in sylenth) with the reverb, then some more EQing to lower frequencies on about 120hz, put another reverb in ableton on it with 40% wetness and 5sec decay time, and in the end put izotope ozone to make it sound clearer... pretty easy when u got notes

cool, question though; how do you get it to be that "fat", is it layering with the same sound but wider or something? it's not only that sound as far as I can hear, it sounds like something in the background as well to make it even "wider"

oh right i forgot,, there s also some nexus piano with lot of reverb as was mentioned before in discussion
