I thought the same thing. What the heck was he thinking? It's tasteless yes, insultingly so because it feels mean-spirited. How can cancer be "fun" and something to "emulate" when you have two family members dying from it? ---- Crime in multi-storey car parks. Well, the word cancer doesn't JUST mean the disease, no? I agree, maybe different words should have been chosen. But I don't think they were poking fun at the disease?
It's like saying a sports figure is cancerous to his team. It's a figure of speech. Not saying it's the best wording, but I fail to see that it's THAT big of a deal. And before somebody says it, my grandmother died of cancer, and my step-mom(who I was very close to) died just a few months ago of it, along with other people I know. So I'm not insensitive to the subject matter. Brent |

It's not really a big deal to me. I really like Troels Folmann's music. But my opinion of him as a human being just took a hit, and I doubt I'm alone. ---- Crime in multi-storey car parks. That is wrong on so many different levels. http://soundcloud.com/dan-ling |

Hmm, I don't know. I just can't imagine losing respect for somebody over something like this. But to each his own, of course. Everyone gets offended by something different, and these days some people get offended over nothing(not saying this is the case here, but it's true). It's impossible to say much without offending SOMEBODY.
Which is why I stopped caring quite a while ago and just do the best I can at being the best I can. If I say the wrong thing and it offends somebody to the point of disliking me, I try not to let it bother me too much. Not enough time in this life to worry about every single person, is there? I dont think English is Troels' first language, fwiw. Its certainly possible to get to 'cancerous' by following thesaurus links from, say, evil.

FFS HTFU and get some resilience. Surely at some stage the world is going to tire of this pantsy, getting upset and outraged over every single use of any word that doesn't fit every ideology....seriously...who gives a shit? |

A while back, Guitar Center sent around a postcard advertising a 20% off sale. The image on the card was a human hand with a finger cut off (get it?).
This really set me off. If there's one thing universally valued by musicians, it's their fingers. All of them. Jerry Garcia's talent notwithstanding, I found the image (especially advertising a music store) repulsive. I don't know who was responsible for that one, but (and I'm not really proud of this) I actually called them to let them know. AFAIK, mine was the only complaint. But maybe it'll cause someone to think twice next time. Now there's a huge segment of music related marketing that values death, destruction, disease, etc. I completely get that. But when you are advertising toward a wider audience, you really do have to watch it. IMHO, Cancer: never funny. Cheers -B ---- Berfab So many plugins, so little time... |

No excuse for confusion on the meaning. They can find another word more accurate. It's not ideology here, it's about pain.
I had a thread closed for less than that and it was not on the first page of KVR. I'm fond of trash and bad taste, but usually it's about me first. ---- You can't always get what you waaaant... |
