I guess you could stick a reed across the pipework for some kind of musical contraption... Wink

My problem with this is simple; if you hate spiders enough to build something like this then you'll have real issues unscrewing the trap and letting the critters go...

Yup! I'm a lover of all kinds of creatures. Cats and birds, being my favorites.

Not that powerful I would have thought, only a can of compressed air after all.

What is it with people and spiders?

I can understand it say in Australia, where they have ones with a bite that can give you a really bad time, but in the UK, where we only have wussy spiders?

I've seriously thought about this issue a lot; I'm fine with most spiders to a point (even quite large garden spiders that spin webs between your roses) but once we get into chunky house spider territory I lose all rational perspective. Why? I'm fine with beetles, bees, wasps, even rats. Must go beyond any kind of logic, some deep psychological trauma as a kid. Or learnt behaviour...

I've wondered too. My phobia is apparently worse than yours... I'm not ok with any spiders, though at least if they're outside I can run away. HiHi Thing is, I also find them fascinating, so it's not like some kind of spider racism. I also know that most of the ones I see are completely harmless to me, but knowing doesn't help. Yeah, I'm fine with pretty much all the other creepy-crawlies too. Snakes, lizards, bugs, whatever.

There's one type of spider in particular that seems to be everywhere up here - in fact, I had one on my coffee cup this morning. I've looked it up, and I know it's completely harmless, and the biggest one I've seen was probably not even dime-sized, but man do they freak me out. Like you say, complete loss of rational perspective. Just talking about 'em makes my guts clench up. Nutter
