I am interested in buying Diva. It looks and sounds great but I keep getting this crackling sound every 60 seconds or so. Is this normal with the commercial version or is this one of the limitations that come from using the demo?

Yes, just a demo limitation. There are various quality settings
in case a sound crushes the cpu like a bug, but I'm so old, I
can't tell anyway. I only knew there was crackling,
after I read about it

DIVA is a greedy girl who wants to eat up all of your CPU and still want more..

She's insatiable and she'll keep you up all night

But it's better to have her maxing our your CPU than your credit card

yeah, the demo version has a crackling noise every minute or so - it changes from a subtle crackle to a clipping noise over time.

the full version doesn't have this, of course.

That's no good...They need to change that 4 sure..

Maybe instead of the Zebra demo where it goes out of tune after a while,they could make it that if you still haven't been convinced to buy it after 20 minutes that your computer blows up ?

OMFG you're right, the other 59 seconds of awesomeness are totally cancelled out by teh crackles.

I totally prefer the crackles, which doesn't stop my flow, than a loud 'this is a demo' or worse a complete time-out. A few synths that totally time-out like Dune and RG end up off my radar, but for instance I still have U-he's ACE installed and can go play with it as much a s I want except for the crackles, which basically just means I won't use it in an actual track. But of all the demo limitations I've seen I like some 'crackles' best.

Hey, thanx for the rolly eyes, always appreciated.

In other news, different people have different demo preferences. Personally I'd prefer to hear Urs singing in German every 60 seconds but that's just me.

I think his point is that you might mistake the crackles as being the result of an overloaded CPU, and come to the conclusion that your CPU isn't fast enough to run the plug-in, including the full version.

I think an audible "This is a demo version" phrase played every minute is better than audio dropouts, crackles, distortion etc. that you might mistake for compatibility problems or a struggling, underpowered computer.

I think it could be more clearly stated when downloading the demo that it will crackly, but another synth I have tried has a 'this is a demo' audio phrase and I hate it. It really pulls you out of the mediation of listening to the sound of the instrument.

Jimmi, I think it's obvious what my point was but if somebody wants to get all *whatever* about it, so be it. Dude on Ableton forum decided against getting it 'cos her hadn't realised it was a demo restriction and thought just that about his CPU. You could argue that he should have read about the crackles. Alternatively, you could argue that it's a daft 'effect' on a none-too-light synth.

That's what it had me thinking lol. I was like well wait why is Diva the only thing I have ever thrown at this computer that it has ever had trouble with. I edit HD video on it but can't handle a vst? I am glad its just a demo limitation I will spend a little more time with it and buy soon. Thanks guys.

Crackling with the Diva Demo is that normal?
