I've been messing around with FM8 and other synths for ageeeesss now trying to get this one particular sound and it's just doing my head in that i had to give in and ask other people if they have any idea this sound is achieved.
( 1:31 is when you hear the sound )
In my head i understand what that sound is made up but I'm failing to get a rich tonality or making sounds phat or good for that matter... mine just sound really piercing and weak....
any suggestions....
Thanks everyone.

The FM8 cabinets can be nice for boosting things... Definitely multiband distortion as well.
There's some youtube video called "fo sho skrillex fm8" or something that gets the basics decently well on..

Ah sorry about that!
If it's the high down-pitching sound that sounds pretty much like Massive to me. Definitely use vibrato on a super-fast setting to get that grit (along with a classic tube or something would do probably). Maybe even add a bit of ohmicide for a bit more distortion.
But you could probably use a few different of the waveforms in massive, mix a basic one with one set on formant and turn up the intensity so it's more of a high range.
(sorry if this isn't spot on... I felt badly for not correctly understanding your post so I'm giving it another shot)

Nha man its cool!
Any help is appreciated.
I've tried a few of those things in vein! I'm in the ballpark and I'm aware what is kind of going on in the sound. Thing is, the sound i end up making always comes across as very "major" regardless of what I'm playing and that pitch-bendy synth is very very moody.
What amazes me is how it manages to be all screechy high-pitchy, yet it's not. When I get around to make this sound if I go high it's just toooo high, when I go low it's just dead. There is obviously a fine line.
Let's keep the brainstorming going

omg dude, this is like my favorite track atm!! hmmm lets see... i would probably have to agree with it being a sound made in massive, but if you want that attack and more power out of it, compress it. Also, some slight pitchbending might be needed to make it have the same effect (veeeeery slight/subliminal pitchbend). I'll have some more listens to it and try to recreate it myself tho. Good luck on the production! ttyl
