Anyone know where to find IR's that sound like the classic recording studios of the 50's & 60's? (Sun Studios Memphis, RCA Victor Studio B Nashville, Goldstar Recording Studios Los Angeles, Capitol Records Los Angeles, Air Studios London ...)

Thanks!

I think that most of the studios that have a "famous" sound and are still in existence are aware of convolution technologies, and have a ban on taking impulses within a recording session. IIRC, Capitol allows for people to rent its reverb chambers for a track, but my guess is that they would ban "tracks" that sound like sine sweeps or random number sequences.

If I am wrong about this, and there are impulse responses of these older studios out there, PLEASE CORRECT ME. I would really love to be wrong about this.

Although perhaps not what you have in mind, Altiverb comes with many IRs of famous recording studios (at a hefty price). Good luck in your quest.

I consider myself corrected. I've never looked at Altiverb before, but it might be worth having as reference sounds for some of my stuff. Thanks for the tip.

I do really enjoy Altiverb (I'm also a very satisfied customer of yours Sean). Here is a link to some of their recording studio IRs : http://www.audioease.com/IR/audioeaseirs.html#Studio

Altiverb features Cello Studios (now East-West studios) which is the old United Western Recorders/Bill Putnum Sr. According to their site, the legacy acoustics have been thoughfully preserved. I once recorded at Gold Star studio, another LA legacy studio. I remember how incredibly 50's looking the live recording areas were!

It may be impossible to find IR's for another legacy room but does anyone know a way to closely simulate one? For example, does Altiverb's edit parameters allow you to "resize and revamp" their Cello studios IR's to resemble Sun Studios (a much smaller and more crudely designed room)? Has anyone experimented with this?
