im new to them and i always thought about the idea to just record some noise/atmospheres on the street, subway, nature, in the park and more, so i wouldnt need to always look for free and royalty free samples which is annoying haha, mostly for ambient, to layer down some nice reverbed, stretched atmo.
i dont think i need a very complex one so i thought and ask you if a field recorder for around 100 bucks is enough for good-great quality in wav and usb connection to pc? i dont think i need built-in reverb and other effects like that as i will effect the material and cut on my pc and in my DAW. thanks! p.s. someone recommended me this one, i had it a bit in the hand, was very cheap feeling but he said it is cheap feeling but the quality is great and for just recording awesome. http://www.thomann.de/gb/zoom_h_1_v2.html 2nd question sorry, this could be also used like a mic maybe too? so i would save a microphone for a few recordings, no pro vocalist just for effected Industrial/EBM voiceovers. |

not sure about the prices and latest models, but i have a little tip.
with such portable equipment, which is prone to getting damaged during regular use anyway, i prefer bying stuff second hand. you can find some great deals online (better models for a lower price), plus it won't be such a huge loss if you happen to break it, drop it on the pavement, etc. i bought my field recorder (Edirol R-09) second hand for $40. the street price for these was $300 several years ago. |

pardon me the dumb question, but for my vocal needs it would be also more than enough i guess? so i can sve a 30 bucks microphone with this one too? |

I have a Zoom H1 that I like a lot. Yes, it feels a bit cheap, but it sounds good enough for "found sounds" to sample from. You can't use it as a USB mic (IE real time recording to your DAW) as far as I know - and I've tried.
For outdoor recording, you really need a good windscreen for it (not foam, but the fake fur kind). |
