Cheap thrills - Juno chorus

Hope this hasn't been asked a million times before. I'm demoing Ubermod, and trying to replicate that thick, over the top chorus from the Juno (actually, the TAL one, but the chorus is the only thing that catches my attention). I came reasonably close with the 2tap mode, but just not quite there yet. Does anybody mind to share some tips? Or is it just the grease in that Juno that's not included in Ubermod?

Doesn't TAL have a free Juno chorus plugin? I mean, I'm not trying to lose 50 bucks here, but if that is the sound you are after, TAL might have it covered for you:BDeep wrote:Hope this hasn't been asked a million times before. Otherwise, I would start with the default ÜberMod preset, and turn the MOD VibDepth up to about 25% or so. IIRC, the Juno-60 chorus combines anti-phase triangle wave modulation (i.e. a single triangle LFO, modulating 2 BBDs, with one of the modulation phases reversed) with a sine LFO to add vibrato.
I'm not sure if the Juno-60 just sends the BBD outputs left/right, or if they mix together the outputs with inverted phases a la the Dimension D. You can play with the WIDTH control to experiment with this.

Ah, thanks Sean, will experiment further
I wouldn't buy ubermod just for this specific chorus, but while I had it on demo, I was wondering if I could get that as well

If anyone's interested, I believe this comes pretty close, and I figured I might as well share it. Mind you, I took the TAL U-NO-LX as a starting point (which is good because I didn't have to worry about the added noise of the original
)

Here's my ubermod take on the TAL/Juno60 chorus:
Juno60 I
<ValhallaUberMod pluginVersion="1.0.1" presetName="juno60 I" Mix="1" Depth="0.386999995" StereoWidth="0.5" Delay="0.00630000001" Feedback="0" Spread="0" Slope="0.5" Skew="0.5" Random="0" TapGain="0.487500012" Diffusion="0.5" DiffSize="0.0204081628" DiffModRate="0.0490490496" DiffModDepth="0.5" LowCut="0" HighCut="0.171859294" SpatialXover="0.17085427" DetuneRate="0.117117114" DetuneDepth="0.351999998" VibratoRate="0.0977443606" VibratoDepth="0.136000007" OverMod="0" DriveInGain="0" DriveOutGain="1" DriveNoiseGain="0" FeedbackRotate="0.5" SmoothingTime="0.0990990996" ColorMode="0" DelaySync="0" type="0.0416666679" DiffEnable="0" Drive="0" DrivePrePost="1" Speed="0" InputPan="0.125"/>
Juno60 II
<ValhallaUberMod pluginVersion="1.0.1" presetName="juno60 II" Mix="1" Depth="0.386999995" StereoWidth="0.5" Delay="0.00630000001" Feedback="0" Spread="0" Slope="0.5" Skew="0.5" Random="0" TapGain="0.487500012" Diffusion="0.5" DiffSize="0.0204081628" DiffModRate="0.0490490496" DiffModDepth="0.5" LowCut="0" HighCut="0.171859294" SpatialXover="0.17085427" DetuneRate="0.105105102" DetuneDepth="0.663999975" VibratoRate="0.121804513" VibratoDepth="0.211999997" OverMod="0" DriveInGain="0" DriveOutGain="1" DriveNoiseGain="0" FeedbackRotate="0.5" SmoothingTime="0.0990990996" ColorMode="0" DelaySync="0" type="0.0416666679" DiffEnable="0" Drive="0" DrivePrePost="1" Speed="0" InputPan="0.125"/>
Mind you, the TAL chorus is about 3db louder. I think the biggest trick is to filter off the highs, in this case all the way down to 3520Hz. And having the mix at 100% is also important. I figure that is how the real Juno60 chorus works.
I didn't have a chance to compare it to my hardware Juno60 chorus, but I think the TAL-U-No 60 + onboard chorus comes pretty close to the real thing considering tone. To my ears, it only misses the punch of the hardware Juno60. Unfortunately, the Juno60 envelopes are quite special, so it's not a detail... If anyone is interested I could post a short audio example to illustrate the difference.
Hats off to ubermod once again... it's incredible what this plugin is capable of!

Thanks for posting the presets! Next week, I'll compare them to the new TAL chorus that was released (a free update of the older Juno chorus).
