Quite a few of the Soundhack plugs are available as externals you can load in m4l.

For those new to Live, these free videos are useful.
They include how the browser works, someone earlier was clueless as to how to add m4l devices.

Thankyou, through experimentation I have discovered that any preset you add to your user library will show up in the Sounds tab provided you put it in a category that tab recognises (ie in a folder called bass, experimental, percussive etc). These can be sub folders of a particular sound bank still e.g. I recategorised the old Juice and Mutations banks for Operator so they show in the Sounds tab, did the same for all the ck and Covert Operators banks too. I will check the video to reduce my cluelessness further though.VariKusBrainZ wrote:For those new to Live, these free videos are useful.

Is there? The csound~ object it relies on is still 32-bit as far as I can tell, have you got csound4live working?

To answer my own question I downloaded the free pack and installed it. Nothing makes a sound, either I have done something wrong (I don't think I did though, the instructions were pretty simple) or it isn't compatible.aMUSEd wrote:Wow - will these work in L9?V0RT3X wrote:Csoundforlive however it is 32-bit only currently on OSX. Unless... does it also need to have CSound on my system (as M4L needs Max)?

Yes you do need to install Csound in order for it to work.aMUSEd wrote:To answer my own question I downloaded the free pack and installed it. You can find all the necessary files in one download here

I have not gotten it to run in Live 9 at all, I think this is because I am using the OSX version which is 32bit supported only. Since it says that there is support for 64bit on the windows platform It may work, but I cannot test this since I do not have access to a windows version of Live 9.
So until they port a proper 64bit version to Live 9 I am happy using Live 8 for all my Csoundforlive stuff.

Yup, you'll need Csound as well. And you'll also have to have installed the MAX/MSP csound~ object.aMUSEd wrote:To answer my own question I downloaded the free pack and installed it. OK installed the OSX 10.8 package from here - http://sourceforge.net/projects/csound/?source=dlp
still no sound - where do I find this Max/cSound object? I am running this in Live 9 32 bit.

edit - did the manual install, still no sound, not sure what more I can do, it's likely it's just not compatible yet

Yeah, I notice there's a very recent update for MAX6 on windows.aMUSEd wrote:Thanks - won't install though - says it needs Max 5whyterabbyt wrote:www.davixology.com/csound~.htmlaMUSEd wrote:OK installed the OSX 10.8 package from here - http://sourceforge.net/projects/csound/?source=dlp

<Not directed at anyone in particular>
Ive said it a couple of times now, but just for pedantry:
1) Live8 was designed to work with MAX5. MAX6 (and MAX6.1, which is what Live9 uses), have certain differences from MAX5 which may prevent M4L stuff which worked with Live8/MAX5 from working on Live9/MAX6.
2) MAX5 was 32-bit only, as was Live8 M4L. Some MAX stuff relies on external objects, which, like plugins in a DAW, have to match the processor type for the running version of MAX. That means existing 32-bit objects may need to be recompiled as 64-bit versions to work in 64-bit versions of MAX6, before they'll even stand a chance of working in Live9 x64 with M4L.
2A) Anything like the csound~ object which relies on calling external software (csound, suppercollider, whatever) might also need to be matched to a 64-bit version of that external software, depending on how it interfaces with that software. (Im not sure what the case for the csound~ object is myself)
3) Even if you're using 32-bit MAX6, not all MAX5 objects will necessarily be available for, work with, or be installable for it.
4) Some MAX stuff relies on objects built in Java. I dont even have a clue what other issues that brings to the MAX5->MAX6 situation.
And for the meantime, 99.9% of all M4L objects out there are for MAX5.
opinion : In a 'best M4L stuff for Live9' thread, please dont suggest stuff that worked fine in Live/M4L5 unless you've already got it working in Live9/M4L6. and if that's only under 32-bit or Mac-only ot whatever please say so. Its gonna save a hulluva lot of confusion.
