Guys correct me if this is in wrong forum section, i am asking here since i believe most Cubase users hangs here.

I see a lot of ebay sellers offering this deal which seems to be great

Steinberg Cubase 6 Software FREE Upgrade to Cubase 7 and Halion 4 Bundle
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Steinberg-Cubas ... 4023079%26

My question is does this offer only apply to people in USA or we have similar offer in europe as well. Will i get in to trouble if i order this in USA and register it here in europe?

Another question is Cubase 7 upgrade? What does this exactly mean? It is clear that i am getting Cubase 6 and Halion but do i get Cubase 7 box as well? With all DVD content etc?

Does this offer exist in EU?

Can anyone clear this up? Any experience from actual users not sellers (sellers can comment obviously..)

THX

Cubase 6 is not region-locked, so I'm 99% sure you will have no problems registering it and getting Cubase 7 for your region.

You do not get a boxed Cubase 7, but a download.

I bought this deal at JRRShop, and I'm loving it!

I'm in the US, but as I said, you should have no problems registering it in Europe.

Ok thanks! May i ask do you get with Cubase 7 download same content as with Cubase 7 DVD. There are some nice vids on that DVD and content. I assume that it's the same thing but if anyone can clarify i will appreciate that..

And last thing - any dealer in Europe?

EDIT: i was just at JRR shop and when i look at the same offer it say:

Free Upgrade to Cubase 7! US Customers Only!

This Bundle comes with:

Cubase 6 Free Upgrade to Cubase 7
HALion 4

- note that US customer Only! ??

Hello kmonkey,

This offer does not exist in the EU, it is a USA offer only. If you purchase it, it will fall in the so called "Grey Import" area.
Which means that you can activate it and register it at MySteinberg, but some local dealers or distributors might not want to support you as you have not purchased it with them. Opposed to Cubase 7 which is Geo tagged and can not be activated outside the US.

This product falls inside the Grace period upgrade which means that as soon as you activate the license, the eLicenser Control Center will convert you Cubase 6 license into a Cubase 7 license automatically, then it will provide you a link to download the Cubase 7 installer.

You can also download the Cubase 7 full installer from our website: http://www.steinberg.net/en/support/dow ... ase_7.html

If I remember correctly, I think you get all of the content of the DVD, but it's been a while, and I didn't install any of the vids or training materials.

Thanks..i guess safest thing for me is to forget this and focus on finding best deal in EU. I don't think it's nice though. Whatever your motivation is, it doesn't make a sense at all. For instance why did you created this deal and limited it for US customers only? If i remember correctly, your company is based in Europe. Why we can't have same offer?

What if i go on business trip in US and i buy something for myself, or someone want to buy me a gift? Not right IMHO. You should care for loyal users in a different way but i see your point regarding grey market.

At least you guys should offer something similar to EU users..

Yes, the DVD and the download version have the exact same content.

I completely understand your point of view, but please have in mind that this is an offer from a third party retailer, and not an official Steinberg promotion.

Umm... how would they know??? :| (and how would it be any different going to, say, AbsoluteMusic for an upgrade if you bought it originally from DV247) They are local dealers and distributors, their contact starts and ends with a purchase through their services.

I could buy Cubase in Kazakhstan and register it on MySteinberg and no local distributor would even enter the picture?

Surely there are only 2 people who would know about a Cubase registration.
1. The licensee.
2. Steinberg

(3, if you count the NSA or GCHQ) :hihi:

I think i can answer you that since i was in similar situation when i worked for one company in my country. Simply put first time when you ask dealer in your country for some support they may ask you where you purchased your copy. This isn't anything wrong or whatever, they may ask you this in order to see should they provide you support or not. Simply put if you ordered it at your local dealer then you can ask them for support (seems logical). But if you didn't ordered it from your local dealer (or region dealer), then why should they provide you support at all?

So it's a situation where you my friend will have to show some evidence on purchasing. Therefore they will know. Not NSA or anything like that. Simple old customer/dealer relationship..

I'm not sure why would you need to worry about local dealer or dealer support for that matter, you are buying a steinberg product and register on steinberg site. Any support you may need you can get from steinberg. As for a great ebay offer if you are happy with it go for it.
I bought my full version of cubase 6 with free 6'5 upgrade from US through ebay at best price at the time and i just installed and registered as normal. I am in Australia.
Good luck with your decission :)

Have a look at Steinbergs "Music Production And Sound Creation Suite ", this is the same product, but not for this excellent price. The lowest price i could find in germany was 579 Euros, which would be insane high compared to the US offer. There are a lot of examples that the US market has more lower prices than europe/germany. This is an example why germany is known as the "milk cow" ...

This is beyond silly. What's the point of this? Why does Steinberg care where do the customers buy and activate the product?

Post

They could always just charge EU prices to everyone.

...which would make it $650 for me, and I would probably skip it in favor of something a little more competitively priced.

Post

The problem is, if they don't do this, you could buy Cubase from a country with a weaker currency, importing it cheap, and undercut Steinberg in Europe, which may severely effect their bottom line.

So, like I said, they could simply charge everyone the EU rate, or they can GEO tag the software so that they can stay competitive globally without having people importing and undercutting them at home.
