He definitely isn't speaking about sample playback which is what you just described, which I doubt either Sylenth or Hive 2 do.

Just because a synth sounds analog does not mean it sounds warm.
In fact, I find many of those 40 year old sounds pretty harsh.
For warm pads for instance I prefer a digital synth or a soft synth that does not even claim to emulate hardware.

Indeed. Analog synths did not only produce warm sounds...(eg. Ring Mod, Osc Sync, Xmods etc, were not for warm sounds generally).
And many of my favourite pads are from Omnisphere using it STEAM engine on Samples..
so no disagreement there.
Whilst indeed Saurus is not my favourite Analog emulation, what is really good about it for me is the sound/cpu cost ratio in which to me in does excel.
