great synth but yea - CPU consuming
btw. I'm surprised (?) how much nice audio interface matters.
Normally I have Core2Duo stationary computer with ESI Maya44 PCI audio interface.
At work (IT) i use laptop - Intel i7 (not some U like ultrabook versions - true i7). Now this laptop is mine and I decided to install there all the stuff needed such as VST Host - Ableton Live. Of course I installed few VST's i have like Sylenth or Lush.
Then I started testing CPU consumption. Ok, my laptop doesnt have an audio interface so at least, I installed Asio4All to have acceptable latency. But, when it goes to comparison between
Core2Duo + ESI Maya 44 Pci VS Intel i7 + Asio4all
then the first (!) combination is much more efficient. It's like, when ie in lush some preset takes 25-30 % CPU then in second combination it takes around 40 %. Same with sylenth (some preset on stationary computer = 6 %, same preset on laptop = 10 %)
I must admit that I havent realised that audio interface matters that much. I thought that it's mainly about "less latency" and ability to just handle such latency
Now I'm wondering, if I buy USB audio interface to this laptop - will it overall be better configuration (when it comes to CPU consumption) than "old computer". (I heard somewhere that PCI audio interfaces when it comes to latency, are much much better). It's a little bit ... weird
On the paper Intel Core i7 is much much stronger than oooold Core2Duo overclocked to something I dont remember what

But it's so much work to set up a new machine, have absolutely no time for that right now.
