TDL opens the 2nd Advent calendar door and releases a new plugin:
Kotelnikov - the successor to "Feedback Compressor II".

A word from the developers.

Tokyo Dawn Labs wrote:we're proud to announce the immediate release of TDR Kotelnikov, a new
mastering compressor.

TDR Kotelnikov is a wideband dynamics processor combining high fidelity
dynamic range control with deep musical flexibility. As a descendant of the
venerable TDR Feedback Compressor product family, Kotelnikov has directly
inherited several unique features such as a proven control scheme,
individual release control for peak and RMS content, an intuitive user
interface, and powerful, state of the art, high-precision algorithms.

With a sonic signature best described as “stealthy”, Kotelnikov has the
ability to manipulate the dynamic range by dramatic amounts, while carefully
preserving the original tone, timbre and punch of a musical signal. As such,
it is perfectly suited to stereo bus compression as well as other critical
applications.

The “Gentleman’s Edition” (GE) adds several improvements to the
standard edition’s feature set. The most obvious being an intuitive access
to various equal loudness workflows, the ability to specify ratio in a
frequency dependent manner, as well as a powerful sidechain high-pass filter
allowing continuously variable access over slope and frequency. The Yin/Yang
functions allow manipulating the harmonic pattern produced during
compression, and a new “insane” quality mode increases processing
fidelity even further.

Kotelnikov does not try to emulate any previously available device. The
concept is a proud digital processor, it is the original!

Notable features

# 64bit floating point precision for all relevant calculations
# Multi-rate processing structure for highest accuracy
# “Delta” oversampled signal path (bit transparent at 0dB gain
reduction)
# Super fast, yet natural sounding compression
# Control scheme based on “Crest factor”, offering independent release
controls for peak and RMS events
# Frequency dependent ratio
# Flexible sidechain highpass filter offering continuously variable control
over slope and frequency
# Advanced stereo linking options optimized for the stereo bus
# Delta preview mode to preview the difference between compressed and
original signal
# Equal loudness latency compensated bypass (processing doesn’t interrupt)
# Extensive documentation

The standard edition can be downloaded for free, the Gentleman's Edition can
be purchased directly from Tokyo Dawn for €40.00.

Kotelnikov is available in:
VST, AU, AAX for Windows and Macintosh, in both 32bit and 64bit.

Kotelnikov does not come in VST3, neither does Kotelnikov have external side chaining capability.
It is advised to consult the manual(s) prior to using this plugin.

And a warning for Wavelab users:
There is currently still a bug in the 32bit Standard edition, where the mouse wheel doesn't work. This will be fixed in a maintenance update.

Thank you! Very excited to try this out tomorrow.

"How many compressors is enough?" Well there's always room for new algorithms, especially at this price! :D

Feedback II has been my go-to bus compressor for some time now. I have no doubt this will be a worthy successor.

It is simply excellent. The tooltip help makes it easy to get started. I dropped it on a master I'm working on and was quite impressed.

This one will be fun to get to know and will likely become my go-to mastering compressor.
Seasoned IT vet, Mac user, and lover of music. Always learning.

Strangely not my coup on the bus but loved the prevous one on channels it was so invisible that i really loved how the grooves sited in a mix!

Great Compressor!

Smooth and powerful and the GE, even more so :)

Cheers

I once thought I had mono for an entire year. It turned out I was just really bored...

Most transparent comp I have ever used!

Post

It's pretty transparent!

Post

Very nice! Very smooth and transparent glue. Love it! Thanx a lot! :tu: :-D

Post

just a quick heads up that your amazing plugins appear under different ID names in logic.. this is an arbitrary fix if you'd care to do so.it's a bit annoying! But cheers and thanks for the heads up on the newbie :D

Post

Probably a little bug: when I use it on Studio One and exit, S1 remains open but in backgrounds (so I can't see until i open S1 again)... Strange behaviour... o.O

DAW AMD 64bit, Windows XP SP3 32bit, Nuendo 5, Studio One & FLStudio9 (all 32bit)

Can it work as expander, too, or only as compressor? (I don't have time to test it at the moment...)

Post

@Tricky: prima hai l'obbligo morale di provare il MIO plugin!!! Serious: Anyway think no...
