[Reason] Can't get drum replacement to work - Am I doing something wrong?

So I'm following this guide to replace a drum:

My goal is to replace my kick drum audio file with kong drum. I've routed the kick's CV gain reduction out to redrum's CV input as shown in the video.

After tweaking the compressor settings, the gain reduction of that kick channel is lighting up as expected - however the CV is for some reason not kicking in (sorry for the pun) and it's not triggering the redrum.

This is with v7.1.1 Is it broken or am I committing a noob mistake? I've checked pretty much everything I can think of.

[Edit] Also tried with pulverizer follower CV out to kong CV in. I can see the follower lighting up, but no effect whatsoever in Kong.

I got it to work - normalized my audio file and in Kong I selecged velocity to amp to be 0.
