Hi,
Just a quick one, what scale/key is this song in?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8aI9k06dGpg
And then whatever key/scale it is in, can you tell me how to show those notes/scales on here:
http://www.pianoworld.com/fun/vpc/piano_chords.htm
Thanks.

In other words, you have no way to know on your own. That row is a misspelled C Aeolian, what's the point of pasting that in there? (It's centered on D)ValliSoftware wrote: Based on the MIDI file here

You really have no clue do you. "has notes that are in D minor and A minor." So?
To the OP: why not find it out yourself, in order to obtain an ear? Why on earth would you ask someone to do this baby's first step for you? Would it not be more enriching or satisfying to know you did this yourself, a little eureka moment happens? The next time you want to grasp this, you're at the same step again. Will you do this indefinitely, require someone to provide for you?
It's a really basic riff with five notes all told, very plainly stated.

Information from your software like it's an answer isn't helping. It's not good information. The main riff of the tune is immediately recognizable, D A C then A, G F D. Pentatonic minor, although giving the answer feels wrong to me. It doesn't even amount to a key. If I went further into it and found these supposed keyboard chords and it adds up to seven notes, "D Aeolian" ISN'T A KEY.
[C Aeolian FYI is C D Eb F G Ab Bb.] That software is not actually on point or particularly useful, it's giving red herrings.
It doesn't know anything and it's designed by someone that doesn't even know to distinguish flats for a C minor type of mode.
I don't have time to softsoap these facts. This leaning on software bothers me a lot. Seems like this isn't the first time.
You going to rely on that all your life, instead of even so much as being able to pick up the most basic thing in simple rock by ear? It isn't helping you.
Anyone that wants to be in music should want to get the thing by ear. It's actually a type of future shock for me, to see this kind of thing.

I did do this myself, but I wanted to verify if I was correct.jancivil wrote:ValliSoftware wrote: To the OP: why not find it out yourself, in order to obtain an ear? Specifically on the bass line, I played the notes on my midi keyboard and the notes were:
D#, A#, C#, A#, A#, A#, G#, F#.
So I then went on to this website:
http://www.pianoworld.com/fun/vpc/piano_chords.htm
and I guessed that the route note might be D# so I clicked D# on the left hand column, and then clicked down in the scale column until I found the notes used in the song. This turned out to be a pentatonic minor. So I figure it is in the key of D# in the scale of pentatonic minor.
There is this website too:
http://www.scales-chords.com/scalefinder.php
and I then put in all the notes I found in the drop down boxes, and it came back with:
F# major pentatonic
D# pentatonic minor
D#, A#, C#, A#, A#, A#, G#, F#.

The last two in bold were the only ones that fitted with those notes, so perhaps the scale that bass line is in could be either:C#/Db major C#/Db; D#/Eb; F; F#/Gb; G#/Ab; A#/Bb; C; C#/Db;
F#/Gb major F#/Gb; G#/Ab; A#/Bb; B; C#/Db; D#/Eb; F; F#/Gb;
B major B; C#/Db; D#/Eb; E; F#/Gb; G#/Ab; A#/Bb; B;
C#/Db melodic minor C#/Db; D#/Eb; E; F#/Gb; G#/Ab; A#/Bb; C; C#/Db;
D#/Eb natural minor D#/Eb; F; F#/Gb; G#/Ab; A#/Bb; B; C#/Db; D#/Eb;
G#/Ab natural minor G#/Ab; A#/Bb; B; C#/Db; D#/Eb; E; F#/Gb; G#/Ab;
A#/Bb natural minor A#/Bb; C; C#/Db; D#/Eb; F; F#/Gb; G#/Ab; A#/Bb;
D#/Eb blues D#/Eb; F#/Gb; G#/Ab; A; A#/Bb; C#/Db; D#/Eb;
F#/Gb major pentatonic F#/Gb; G#/Ab; A#/Bb; C#/Db; D#/Eb; F#/Gb;
D#/Eb minor pentatonic D#/Eb; F#/Gb; G#/Ab; A#/Bb; C#/Db; D#/Eb;

But If you really want a future shock try venturing onto beatport
As for software based stabilizers they are at least useful for checking out any ear based exercises, just to see if things line up.

Well hopefully someone can correct me if I'm wrong.
