$30 to whomever is the first to be able to create the best version of the prominent patch that make up a majority of Jean-Michel Jarres's 5th Rendez-Vous Part 1:
https://soundcloud.com/seanchristopherdockery/jmjrv5th
I've edited the original post to add a small monitory incentive in hopes that someone will be able to do it. I've been wanting to make this sound for a while, but have been unsuccessful. Mr. Layzer got close with the simple and aging PlastiCZ, so I know it can be done.....I just suck at making that sound.
$30 via PayPal to whoever comes closest by March 1st. It can be with ANY VSTi synth.
Hopefully some of you will be up to the challenge and we'll get SUPER close.

Hey, I would love to recreate the main synth sound used on JMJ's 5th Rendez-Vous pt. 1
If you've recreated them, or think that you can, I would love some assistance. Also, if anyone knows what synths were used for 5th Rendez-Vous pt. 1 it may also help.
Thanks in Advance!

That's what I initially though, but last year when I owned a V-Synth with the D-50 card (and nearly every sound-set every created for the D-50) I couldn't seem to get as close as I wanted to. You could very well be correct that it was the D-50, though.MachineClaw wrote:Roland D-50 preset. can't remember which one.

Yeah...come to think of it, I thought it was Revolutions (the follow-up to Rendez-vous) that he used a lot of D-50 on.JPQ wrote:Only problem rendez vousis 1986 and D50 is 1987 but i know JMJ can maybe get eaerly models.
I won't loose hope that with all the synth-experts here at KVR, someone will be able to recreate those sounds.

the key to getting that sound is a square wave with a piano type amp envelope, and some lowpass filter cutoff with resonance then fed into a room reverb. it also sounds alot like a fairlight as well.
i tried to make it with PG8X as described above. i can get the bellish tone but it lacks the
breathy attack of the fairlight. therefore, look into a fairlight soundfont perhaps

I'm rather sure this sound is from a very rare synth named Seiko DS-250 that Jean Michel also used on this album.

http://www.synrise.de/guests/lorenz/coll/seiko.html
On the left side you see the (dockable!) additive unit. On the right there's a digital step sequencer.
This thing had no midi!
EDIT: Oops, wrong. The DS-250 (keyboard unit) had midi. I have a DS-202 keyboard without midi. But both worked with the additive unit DS-310.
http://www.sequencer.de/syns/seiko/DS31 ... DS101.html
I also played one in the mid 1980s. It is a rather basic additive synth (16 partials, blending thru 3 spectrums via envelope, no filter!) with LOTS of aliasing. In fact so much aliasing that it could sound very "breathy".
I still have this synth but i don't get it to work anymore. Several repairs failed unfortunately.
I think you can come very close to this sound with a wavetable synth like Waldorf PPG3V or Arturia's Prophet VS clone.
Cheers,
Gerald

Thanks for that info. Yeah, the Elka Synthex was definitely all over Rendez-Vous. I still didn't hear anything close to was I was looking for to reproduce Rendez-Vous 5 pt.1 though. I'm becoming obsessed now.Tubular Tos wrote:...??? maybe the Elka Synthex ..... http://www.jarrography.free.fr/details_ ... d_equip=29 it seems he used it a lot on Rendez Vous !
