Seeking inspiration in the work of others and putting it through the filter of your own creativity is what all great artists do... Seeking inspiration in your own work from the past is a different story...Kriminal wrote:Or an indication of lack of new ideas...Numanoid wrote:Recurring themes, an indication of greatnesssfd wrote:Speaking of PTA, I guess most of you guys have noted that they used some sounds from the 12" version of Behind The Wheel in Suffer Well.

In restrospective exhibitions painters show their old works, just like musicians play their old songs during concerts. That's welcome and expected. My comment was related to artists recycling their own old ideas and selling them as new.Numanoid wrote: So when painters do retrospective exhibitions it is just to cash in?

True! And in DM's case I guess it's also a question of popular demand. It' swhat teh audience want to hear.
Speaking of retroperspective...you're right...however in Kraftwerks case I think they've taken it just a little to far.

I checked out the new album today. I like it. It is very rare to find someone actually making instrumental music with modulars which goes beyond experimental noodling. This was all very musical, and most of it reminds me of Warp-era early IDM.
