Hallo everybody,
Sorry for the spam, but I didn' see a topi9c for the WX7.
My question is is there are simple softsynth replacement for the Yamaha VL70M hardware sound generator?
I am a windows engineer, but an absolute tenor sax player.
I don't want to dsturb the family by practicing, that's why I am searching for an easy to set up software program for Windows 7.
No complicated and expensive samplers or Digital Audio Workstations needed.
The best is a simple player who take an input from the USB-MIDI Cable and play it over the PC speakers.
I use at the moment the diagnosti tool MIDI-OX, which output is the standard Microsoft GW SW Driver, but there is a latency (delay) in playing the notes over the speakers.
Thank you i advance for your help!

There was one in 1998 - 1999 for the Intel Pentium III CPU called SYXG100.

Want to start a petition for Yamaha to port it to VST?

My favorite quick setup is with Synth1(it's free and sounds great). Set the mod sources for breath control. I usually set the filter cutoff and amp gain.
Turn the gain setting all the way down, and do the same with velocity. You can set it for legato, but I prefer poly. I just have to be more attentive to the articulation.
Hope this helps.

Nothing can replace it. There are some physical modelling plugins (not Synth 1 I hasten to add) like Tassman but none that have the feel of the VL70, especially for woodwinds and brass. The closest are probably some Reaktor ensembles by Chet Singer like Silverwood (he also did some good ones for the Nord Modular).WXSerie wrote:Hallo everybody,

I still prefer my VL though (and Korg Z1).
Can't you just use a VL70 with headphones?

there is this:
http://www.samplemodeling.com/en/products_saxes.php
or this:
http://www.samplemodeling.com/en/swam_saxophones.php
No personal experience with any of those, just heard a lot of praise for Sample Modeling's 'The trumpet'.
It requires a full version of Kontakt, too.

I own them all and they are all great. As far as I've seen, they are the most realistic things out there. In my opinion, the brass are a bit stronger than the reeds, but really, that's quibbling somewhat.there is this:

WIVI uses waveguide and does very good brassaMUSEd wrote:Nothing can replace it. as a sax player and fellow wind controller player, i'm gonna advise you to just buy an EWI and use the sounds inside that. I do tons of horn arranging gigs for gospel records, and none of the plugin libraries out there are decent enough to shed with, so don't waste your time. They're all very programmable (I use WIVI), but they suck for shedding with. However, you should invest your time with the built-in sound engine of the EWI4000. don't get the USB model, get the 4000 with the built-in synth.

afaik it's a hybrid approach, they still use samples but model some aspects of the instrument behaviour (as do Samplemodelling) but it's not complete physical modelling. I have Wivi band and wasn't impressed, maybe the fuller versions are better.electro wrote:WIVI uses waveguide and does very good brassaMUSEd wrote:Nothing can replace it. Thank you for the answers so far.
Just to make it clear, I am not a professional musician and need a simple and easy to set up software module in order to hear over the desktop speakers what I play on my midi controller.
I don't own an Yamaha VL70M and I am not sure, that my midi controller is set up correctly and even that it is not broken.
I own a Roland SC-55 Sound generator, but there a some problems when I try to play the controller, that's why I installed MIDI-OX on my desktop in order to see what signals are coming out of the controller.
I can continue to use the MIDI-OX, it is good enough, but there are only piano notes what I can hear and I want to hear tenor sax. For this I need a softsynth, or however this is called. If possible the simplest one. I have understood, there are some VST, which need to be installed in a DAW station, but this is too expensive for me. What I need is a free stand alone softsynth, which uses les computer resources. Thank you in advance. I am on a trip until 18.7.2015 and will answer after that. Have a nice weekend!

You can use any VST plugin as a standalone instrument via the free SAVIHost. Its simple to use too: SAVIHost just has to be put in the same folder as the plugin DLL, then renamed to the name of the plugin DLL, and then you can run the plugin by running SAVIHost. To run other plugin DLLs you simply make a copy of SAVIHost and give it the name of the other plugin.
To run several plugins in one modular environment (which allows you to build entire instrument and effect chains and then save them for later recall) can use the also free VSTHost which comes from the same developer as SAVIHost.
SAVIHost: http://www.hermannseib.com/savihost.htm
VSTHost: http://www.hermannseib.com/vsthost.htm
PS: Dont be worried about their looks. These 2 may not exactly look modern by todays standard, but they are constantly updated, rock stable, and programmed by somebody who knew what he was doing, i.e. all the important features are there.
