Hello,

I'm starting out on my music production adventures. I'm looking for online tutorial websites to help me get started with the likes of Cubase 8, Bitwig, NI Komplete, NI Maschine along with some basics on mixing and things like EQ and Compression etc.

I've had a look at Ask Video, Groove 3 and Lynda websites so far. Groove 3 are offering a 1 yr subscription for $99 (offer ending end of November).

Has anyone had any experience with any of the 3 websites I have mentioned above or any others that I may have missed?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Levon

regarding Bitwig there is a lot on their page actualy: http://www.bitwig.com/en/community/learning.html

then there is also:

https://www.adsrcourses.com/
http://www.sonicacademy.com/

i think you can't go wrong with any of them, especially in the beginning it's just about getting as much input as possible, then understanding it and sorting out stuff you need or you want to learn more about.

Personally i think it's quite important that the speakers voice is pleasent enough to listen for a few hours, so you might want to check demos or smth.

good luck!

Groove3 seems to be pretty good. Had a test subscription there once, and the videos were really very informative and straight forward.

I had a subscription at Groove3 for a few months and worked my way through all of the Studio One videos, about 8 on various Native Instruments VSTs, and about 5 general purpose music videos. Every single one was good. The only video that I thought wasn't as good as it could be was Studio One 3 Advanced as the tutor went too fast and didn't go into enough detail. But the rest were great. I'd recommend Groove3 to anyone.

I also had a Lynda.com subscription but found that their courses didn't cover what I wanted to learn, so I can't comment on their quality.

I have used groove3 and lynda.com for a couple of months (I don't like to pay full year in advance).

Of those two I think Groove3 has more diverse contecnt: rock, EDM, and similar amount of content for each DAW, as well as a lot for specific plug in companies.

But Lynda.com tutorials on effects (delay, reverb, compressor, eq, gates, limiter, etc) are far superior IMHO, Very well done. Pick the trial period just to watch those. Also the mamooth tutorial on mixing is excelent just focused on rock/pop.

Overall I think lynda.com tutorials are better produced. But their ones on Live for example are short and i didn't find them particularly great.

For mixing I would also pick a book: Mixing audie by roey izhaki.

Also check out macprovideo (not limited to mac).

I subscribe to both groove3 and macprovideo. Both are pretty good (far better than most of what I can find in youtube).

ADSR also have a number of video courses on mixing and subtopics like compression and EQ, and have nine separate courses comprising 71 videos on the topic of Maschine. (Click the Courses link at the top to view the complete list.) They're also fairly inexpensive at something like $15 per month and offer reduced rates every now and again.
