I don't know much about FLAC to be honest.Rudi Foller wrote: ↑Sun Jan 15, 2023 1:09 pmThanks ASTN
There is an opinion that NCW is just FLAC in a proprietary container.
How does this fit in with your researches?
As for the NCW format I uploaded TXT file with its description (at least what I learned about it) but the file was lost in filehosting-hell,.
Anyway, when I decided to try digging, I assumed that due to KONTAKT requirements those files couldn't have anything fancy inside (since KONTAKT is required to play hundreds of those files at the second, switching them instantly, loading-unloading etc). And I was right.
In the end it's just a bunch of blocks where every block is bit-truncated. That's all.
Oh, and they use MID-SIDE most of the time, since in the most cases SIDE channel contains pretty small amount of information and thus is very compressible.

Thanks for your reply.
Obviously the last DWORD value is different formats with likely different compression algorithms. Have you been able to figure out what is the difference between them? And which one is used for compression by your excellent utility? You wrote:NCW File Signature can be 0x01A89ED631010000 or 0x01A89ED630010000

Seems like a version. My old Kontakt creates 01 A8 9E D6 31 00, while my newer Kontakt on another PC creates 01 A8 9E D6 31 01 signature. Other than that files they make don't have any differences.
Compression, as I said earlier, is a simple bit-truncating.

NCW is not FLAC, it's ADPCM.
