I tried rendering a video with effects using Hitfilm and it felt horrible on my computer!
I have a i7 but I don't like rendering over 5 minutes. It took like 20 minutes to recover!
Da Vinci Resolve seems a little better but still a trainwreck on resources.

Depends on budget.
A GoPro maybe? Hero 10 or 11 still being sold, about half the price of the 12? We have a few 10s, pretty popular with our students, so are the even older ones!
Our DJI Osmo Pockets (ours are V2 I think) are pretty popular too.
my other modular synth is a bugbrand

Answered in another thread, but I was suggesting to look at the webcams. I have a Obsbot Tiny 2. It’s 4k, adjustable focal length, that’s sits on a motorized gimbal.
Less than $200 and made for streaming… possibly made for webcam models, as there’s some auto features to focus/follow one’s body!
There’s more cameras like it too that all integrate easily with OBS Studio.

thanks to both of you
ill pick something up soon, budget is anything reasonable i guess, not pro equipment but something fairly decent.
preferably something i can use elsewhere too, so gopro is probably closer to what im wanting.
although, motorised mount and auto focus sounds cool too, so maybe both

If you have strong lighting, try using your phone camera with exposure set to the lowest level. I've been getting better results with an iPhone 13 this way than I get with my Sony A5100.

And remote control too, with 3 presets to configure. I think you can do more via OBS, but haven’t tried it yet. So one press of a button and you can recall the focus, zoom or angle towards something else.vurt wrote: ↑Fri Mar 08, 2024 6:04 pm thanks to both of you

Is that the Pro model? I’ve got the 13 base model and just installed the Blackmagic app. I’m hoping to try some things on Sunday. I wish it was the 15 with USB-C to extend to a monitor. Not sure I need Pro-Log, but wouldn’t hurt. I’m rusty on coloring, but the great thing with something so ubiquitous, is that I believe others may have created enough LUTs to not worry about such things.

Yes, the Pro model, although I only ever use the standard lens and never use Pro-Log, so I guess you'll get the same results? You'll need to set up your color space (video below). I usually grade without a LUT. I'd buy One LUT if I had an iPhone 15, but with this phone, none of the free LUTs have worked out very well for me.elxsound wrote: ↑Fri Mar 08, 2024 11:07 pm Is that the Pro model? Nice one. I haven't worked in DaVinci Resolve yet. I got as far as downloading but I used to work from Final Cut with good results. I'm gonna bookmark this to try out DaVinci.Uncle E wrote: ↑Sat Mar 09, 2024 12:41 amYes, the Pro model, although I only ever use the standard lens and never use Pro-Log, so I guess you'll get the same results? 2 weeks ago I added a Stream Deck that I'm still setting up, but using DaVinci Resolve won't be too bad with stream deck and an existing profile.

Does anyone know how to do quick screen capture edits like in this video? It seems like it's automatically zooming in on the cursor every time he moves his mouse.

IIRC you can do that in Camtasia, and this link also suggest you can. Howver, I'm not a big fan of the effect, so I've never actually tried to do this myself.
Camtasia is designed purely for screen captures (tutorials etc.) so it offers functionality focussed on exactly those use cases.

I've always done this in post, but I do see there are some new vendors with an auto zoom. I just wouldn't know them well enough to recommend one and I find most of these very suspect.Uncle E wrote: ↑Sat Mar 09, 2024 8:55 pm Does anyone know how to do quick screen capture edits like in this video? I have ScreenFlow and iShowU Studio (and Instant). I have an older license for Camtasia too, but stopped using after one of their releases broke external audio/soundcard support. I'm sure they've fixed it, or at least I hope they did.
There's no reason you can't do the same in another editing program, but callouts are streamlined in the dedicated screenrecording apps. With that said... I think FXfactory has some callout effects for purchase which would speed things up. They likely support DaVinci now too? They at least support FCX & Adobe Premiere.
