Did a rough demo on a new song last night, too knackered to do more today on it but with the next three days off hoping to change it around a bit plus kind of want to create covers of a Triffids song or two as 2nd Feb will be the 25th anniversary of David McComb’s death. Picked up a new Bass VI guitar so looking forward to working out where that can fit in to everything.

Not having touched my K.O. II for almost a month, I grabbed it and went to the living room without my phone or a manual to see how much I could remember. (Or headphones either, I was determined to use the horrible little speaker it has.) I worked out most of the things I wanted to do (though fully erasing a scene was lost on me) and wound up making a neat lo-fi 4-note ambient loop.
Then I recorded it through the Paper Jams "Pro" Microphone with and without the autotune enabled (which wound up giving it a glitchy cassette warble sort of effect) as well as direct to the DAW. I'm planning to crossfade between the different takes with a controller, layer in another drone previously recorded and improvise something else over the top of it (maybe kalimba through Virta?)

Put the finishing touches on a new dance track that will feature one of my fav singers when she gets home from her holiday next week. Started in a new chillout track. Also started doing some rearranging of the studio to make room for my new synth (Trigon 6) that will be here in a week.
Logic Pro | PolyBrute | MatrixBrute | MiniFreak | Prophet 6 | Trigon 6 | OB-6 | Rev2 | Pro 3 | SE-1X | Polar TI2 | Blofeld | RYTMmk2 | Digitone | Syntakt | Digitakt | Integra-7

Began cable organization.
Ran out of tie-wraps.
Oh woe is me!

Didn’t do as much as I’d wanted to as my back was playing up, hopefully get round to it this weekend instead.

Good recording session tonight, the first real one in over a month instead of just trying plugins or screwing around experimenting. (Although it started just messing with Strega because of someone's forum post asking about it, which I didn't end up replying to anyway.)

After getting some really cool kit recently of course I would now enter a period where I’ve returned completely to writing songs just on acoustic with vocals. Kind of excited by the newest one though it’s got a bit of a Spiritualized “Ladies and Gentlemen” vibe to it. Fewest words I’ve ever put into a song, just kept stripping lines out and now it’s just 9 short lines.

CBA Preamp Mkii arrived today and not sure how I missed it wasn’t stereo I/O.
For using it with the guitar, that’s no biggie but now I’m needing to rethink my effects chain since I was hoping to use it with line level stereo sound sources too.
Likely going to have a dedicated mono setup, but deciding where to put it is killing the vibe!
Oh well, it’s a luxury to have it and I’ll enjoy it all the same.
I’m still behind organizing some connections and trying to make way for the S88 mk3 coming tomorrow.
Oh yeah, hanging with a new cold is kicking my ass.

Spent the last several days with two songs. The first went through two itinerations before I decided on a mix of rubber bands sampled from the Enner and echoing Prologue repetitions. The second is mainly a custom voice from 3rd wave through the new Planetarium (reverb+echo) with STVC 04 'phased pad' thrown in. Trying to get enough stuff for an ambient-only release in 2024.

Mostly I've been playing with Phonolyth Cascade, getting a better feel for it. I think I'm going to start writing up a few notes, a shorter version of what I did with a couple of my Eurorack modules last year. I've saved a few presets along the way, but if I follow my typical pattern, I will eventually pick a new favorite default and then use that as a jumping-off point for tweaking every time and never touch the other presets.

Finally got sick of myself, sick of buying gear that I don't use, sick of wasting time learning new stuff that doesn't improve my music, sick of not being productive, just fecking SICK of the eternal G.A.S. cycle of buy, buy, buy.
I 'stripped down', to a few instruments, a dozen effects, and bought a cheap guitar.
Next purchases: a Shure SM58 and a cheap Ibanez bass. And that's it, end of 2024 purchases for gear.
Now to actually, you know, use the studio to make music instead of show off the sh*t I don't use.

thinking of, going, for want of a better word, dawless.
i have no problem recording stuff, without a computer.
what i don't have, is any way to then upload said recordings anywhere, which im fine with too.
but id also lose sample editing and such for my various modules, no more software updates for anything either, not as happy about losing these.
stupid computers
