I have been wondering for a number of years now, what tubo mode is? Can't find any information in the documents or on this forum.

Hi.. I think you can forget about it 
It turns off the VU meter in the main window (actually prevents it from refreshing), and should reduce the frame-rate of the graphical interface.
I initially thought that would reduce CPU consumption, but the benefit is negligible.
So, I would safely just ignore it...
