Meaning changed of yellow bar left of posts?

Until recently the yellow bar at the left of topics in the "My Latest" view had the meaning: with bar = unread, without bar = read.

This changed a few days ago - on Sunday? What's the meaning now? Unread posts sometimes have no bar. I cannot figure out the pattern. Now I need to pay extra attention to titles to find the ones I'm interested in, the yellow bar lost it's purpose. Or better put, it is repurposed. But to what?

This thread, which I had not yet read, was not red, nor yellow instead.
So, in my head, its as Bert said; I feel misled,
and cannot find that in which i am interested.

I think it's
yellow = you've viewed this thread and there are new posts
no yellow = there are no new posts OR you have not read the thread.

Maybe. Regardless, it's totally messing with me. Change it back

edit: Unless I am misreading the legend at the bottom describes the old behavior. So maybe the change is a mistake?

I hardly noticed as there was a win 10 update on my computer that changed the font colors.

What used to look like- I read the thread already now appears to be I posted in there at some point.
