No, not pro, just always wanted to learn this stuff.
I was a pro recording engineer for a long time, this is harder to learn because the process is not very intuitive, but I am forcing myself to learn.
I don't think there is a market for this kind of stuff so it takes spending a lot of time on something that pays nothing, not very practical.

But I am determined to be as good as possible at it so.....

Well, not to sound like some rabid fanboi but you obviously have some skills there!

Yeah.. I'm a retired software engineer/musician and have played SOME instrument since I was 15, when I cleared land to buy a cheap Tele copy and pissed off my parents! Kept at it and gpt decent, but my career went wild and sucked up my time. When I got married, my wife played guitar and sang and I was so stupid in love that I switched to keys (lol) and let her take the lead on things. Divorced now but due to diabetes feeling in my hands sucks, so the keys ended up being my focus. Did some gamedev work for 8 years and got into animation due to that, and now all my pent-up random creativity melds with my inner darkness and BOOM! You get 'Suitcase Of Lizards'.

With enough practice, I'll get half as good as you are, lolololollll!

My ex now works in a florist shop in Germany and has quit music, which is too bad as she spent a ton on recording engineer classes. Engineering, for me, isn't easy which is likely why my music sucks! Another thing to work on, arghhhh!

That’s very cool! I’ve dabbled with After Effects in the past (for animating our photo service logo), but never got very good at it. I’d love to integrate it into some of my music videos to augment the live video footage, but, ugh, finding the time…

I mostly use Davinci, and used to use AE more often. If I'm not in the mood and just need a Visualizer, I like to use Vizzy. It goes up to 4K and is free... Sometimes I also make a clip in Vizzy or Canva and then edit it in Davinci... Anyway, I made the little Visualizer video today in about 20min in Vizzy.

Le sigh.

All day fighting Visual Synthesizer. Still frustrated beyond words, though. The layer blend modes don't work the way I'm used to in any other app. The menu system has small but irritating quirks that slow me up. Changing a material color doesn't influence the entire material (!!). Alpha blending doesn't work like other apps.

It still has its uses, but hitting all this early on has made me realize I'll hit the wall with this in short order.

Time to byte the bullet and attack Resolve/Fusion and see how far I can get with that. If I can get Fairlight to wok properly with all my plugins, I can do the composition work for video right there in the same app. Talk about a time-saver!

Otherwise, it's Adobe CC/After Effects. I am Lizard of Borg, you will be assimil.. wait.. coffee!

Especially with videos, you always have to weigh up the effort and the expected benefit very carefully. If you also work with 3D etc., you don't have time to make music. The graphics stuff is very time consuming and, just like the music, often takes years of practice and experience to get it looking reasonable (IMO).

5 TUTORIALS it took to find the easy way to keyframe in Resolve/Fusion! WTF?? Nothing ike in any of the apps I'm used to, sheesh, talk about inobvious. Anyway, next I need to learn to retime keyframes and that'll move me closer to making the entire video in Resolve/Fusion.

It depends what you are used to. I haven't used either in a very long time but, from memory, Fusion/Resolve worked exactly as I'd expected them to.

My bandmate is working on a new video for our next single, using AI to do all the legwork, then putting it together in DaVinci Resolve. Most of the AI tools will only do four second clips so it's still a lot of manual work.

This weeks audio visualizer video:

This audio visualizer was designed around the concept of sympathetic resonance.

Sympathetic resonance is the harmonic phenomenon wherein a passive string or vibratory body responds to external vibrations to which it has a harmonic likeness.

With this in mind, the audio is used to "resonate" the visual elements of the video.

The videos was created in Adobe After effects, music was created using Cubase.
Several visual technologies are used including particles, custom audio visualizer, geometry, ect.
The audio frequencies are effecting several aspects of the particles, light, movement and color.
