Hi everyone, I’m fairly ignorant of what’s available for iPad and can’t seem to find something that fits the bill. I’m looking for some kind of chord sequencer (chordbot is great) but I can find something which also allows you to compose a melody on top. I don’t want to be composing every chord by hand but ideally with one tap, and hopefully entering a melody with ease.

Do you have any suggestions?

Runs in a browser, speaks perfect MIDI, nice features, etc. It's got its quirks compared to a real DAW, but it works for when you're not at your main computer. Works fine on an iPad, just not as an iOS app.

As you play with it, you'll want to learn to change the "bands" early on. This is its way of changing instrumentation for a section of bars. It's essential to figure that out, or else you'll just be making lame backing tracks. There are some nice instruments available for the melodic component, but you only get one at a time—no weaving of things together (though, this probably works out in the end as it forces you to make the most of one line).

Other advice: learn how to use it on a computer first. It's super-duper mouse and keyboard driven by design, and will be frustrating on an iPad even when you know what is possible. But, you can work on an iPad once you know what's possible.
